On April 30, 1812 Louisiana became the 18th state to join the union and every year the state honors this special day.
To celebrate this birthday, Let’s Get Cookin’ will help you create extra-special food and fun drink recipes from this southern state.

• Strawberry Beignets - beignets became the state’s official doughnut in 1986, these light and puffy deep fried pastries are a southern favorite

• Honey Pecan Pie – crucial to plant and animal survival, and of course for its wax and honey, the honeybee is Louisiana’s state insect
