About this ebook
In the last five years, Simon’s Cat has become a global phenomenon. Star of thirty-nine films, which have been watched over 500 million times, and winner of a dozen major industry awards, Simon’s Cat has captured the hearts of a worldwide audience. In this book we see Simon’s Cat face any feline’s most dreaded scenario—he’s off to the vet. And he’s not at all happy about it.
Sharing its theme with the first-ever full-color Simon’s Cat feature animation, funded by a record-breaking Indiegogo campaign and released alongside the book, Simon’s Cat Off to the Vet . . . and Other Cat-astrophes is packed with over 240 pages of hilarious new gags and adventures featuring our favorite furry friend and his companions—both old and new.
Says Tofield: “Taking my naughty cat to the vet is one of the most requested film ideas from our fans. It was because of this that I started work on a new film and book based on the crazy situations that arise during these trips! A visit to the vet can be quite a stressful time in real life for both cats and their owners, however my goal is to bring out the comedy, and introduce a cast of extra characters for Simon’s Cat to meet, as he gets his claws into his new surroundings!”
“A sweet, humorous look at feline behavior from an author with a thorough understanding of this subject matter.”—Examiner.com
“Will cheer the gloomiest day.”—Kings River Life Magazine

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I’ve received several Simon’s Cat books through Early Reviewers and, as expected, Off to the Vet is just as charming and funny as the others.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Simon Goes to the Vet is a fun little book that provided a lot of humor. I was a bit disappointed in it for 2 reasons. First, I was expecting a central theme, I suppose like a plot, that would connect the cartoons together, but there was only hints of one. This made it interesting to turn the page and find yet another topic. Second, there was a lot of good 'go to vet' material not used. I have cats -- I know what fun some vet trips are. I suppose this is not a fair criticism, but it did annoy me.Overall, I would recommend the book as it is funny in spots, but it just didn't grab me.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I received a copy of this book to review through Early Reviewers. I am a big fan of the Simon's cat youtube animated cartoons, but hadn't looked at the printed books since the first one. Any person who is owned by a cat will find scenes from their everyday existence in these pages. Just don't laugh too hard while your cat is sitting on you, as Simon knows, those claws can hurt.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A fan of the youtube shorts, I was surprised that the wry characterization of the cat that works so well in that medium somehow falls a bit flat in comic form. Perhaps because it lacks the personality flowing from the audio. Sequences which I am sure would have been delightful diversions if animated seemed to lack the usual cleverness. There were a few firm hits to be sure, but on the whole, a middling effort.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I've seen a few Simon's Cat videos online, but haven't read on the the print books before. This one was humorous and amusing. The style is more 'cut-outs' of his videos than frames of funny pages comics, and it suits the art well. I shared the book with my veterinary hospital coworkers, and they chuckled a bit too.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I recieved this book through the early review. This is the first time I have ever read one of Simon to fields books. As comic book reader at heart, I enjoyed the detailed drawings and capturing of what the author was trying to portray. To me the book showed what life with cats can be like and what the cats may be thinking in their minds. I did find it funny and caught myself laughing a few times. My youngest also enjoyed the book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This collection goes back to the original black & white format (mostly) and Simon's cat finds himself in a large variety of comedic situations. It's less about vet antics (though there's a section in the center of the book that takes place in the vet's office that is bonus full-color) and more about how Simon's cat encounters creatures and situations that he's afraid of or in conflict with, and learns that he doesn't have to be afraid because you might find new friends in the most unlikely places. At first I found it a little disjointed which normally wouldn't be a issue for a book of comic strips where you would expect jumps from scene to scene, but the Simon's Cat books had previously done a good job with connecting the strips in a loose over-arching pattern, so that's what I was expecting to see here as well and was mildly disappointed when it didn't seem to be the case. However, by the end it did have that connectivity -- it just took me longer to see it.Ultimately, I did enjoy it . Kitten Chaos is still my favorite of the books, but there's always a refreshing innocence to Simon's cat's view of the world where the normal everyday moments we experience become something warm and special.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I received this book through the LibraryThing Early Reviewer's program.First off, having an envelope appear in your mail with "LibraryThing win enclosed" jotted cheerfully on the outside is a great way to start a day. I've loved Simon's Cat since the first animation started making the rounds of the Internet, and own the first two books by Mr. Tofield. This book is a grand addition to the collection, with the same great drawings and warped sense of humor. The color pages were a nice surprise. And I especially love the direction the story is going, with the introduction the new characters! An A+ addition to my collection!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you haven't seen the Simon's Cat videos, this book will very possibly make you laugh out loud. If you have seen them, you may find a little soundtrack of purrs and crashes running through your head as you read the book. This is a superb wordless comic, a category that I am personally not all that fond of. Tofield has done an excellent job with a difficult medium. The humor rings true to owners and lovers of cats and the wild creatures have delightful personalities. Tofield draws with a crisp line and a wonderful eye for detail that makes the book capable of surprises each time you look at it.Worth owning and re-reading many times.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A fun & funny book! My favorite part was when Simon's Cat turns away momentarily from a cockatiel (who happens to have a tall comb of yellow feathers). Simon's Cat puts a yellow medical exam glove on his head (making it look as if he, too, is sporting a comb of yellow feathers). The cat turns back to face the cockatiel … and the bird goes crazy for him! Then he must find a way to dampen the amorous advances ....
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I don't know if it was the perfect timing, having just taken one of my cats to the vet for surgery, or if it was just such a treat to come back to Simon and his feline cohorts, but I loved this book. As a long-time fan of Simon Tofield's work, not only was I ecstatic to have won this (thank you, LT!), but I was happy to know another Simon book was coming out. There are a couple of new "characters" to the universe, which was a fun surprise. Only someone who loves and lives with cats could draw and understand their small quirks as well as he does. These cats are fabulous, and I can't wait for the next adventure!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5As always, Simon Tofield delivers! Simon's Cat humorously delivers insight into "the every cat" - cat lovers everywhere will see aspects of their own cat(s) in every picture. In this book, Simon's cat does everything he can not to go to the vet - and, as cats are, he's very clever in his resistance. Absolutely adorable and at times laugh-out-loud funny, this book is a must-read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a series of comic stories about Simon, and his cats, and assorted neighbors, all told without words. Some of the gags are cute, a few made me smile and say "yep!", and others were quite funny. I especially liked the "cone of shame" sequence. If you are a cat lover, you'll find familiar situations here. Enjoyed!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Simon's Cat is always funny - but this book is a bit over the top - the cat is a but too anthropomorphic for me. The bit about the trip to the veterinarians is so true - I like how Simon ticked the cat into a card box box and taped it up to get kitty to the vet - I should try that some time. The art is good, the cat is funny, Not as good as previous volumes, but still entertaining.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I received this book through the LibraryThing Early Reviewer's program.I've been a past fan of the Simon's Cat videos, but had not yet seen one of the books, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect in the transition from video to print. In a move that (in retrospect) makes perfect sense, the book has no words at all, it's just a series of pictures. Some are tightly connected, following a storyline of the cat's visit to the vet, and some are more loosely connected. The pictures work surprisingly well at communicating the crazy antics that cat owners are likely to be too familiar with. This book was enjoyable to read (look?) through, and I will enjoy looking through it again from time to time.
