AMIN JAFFER INDIA’S GLOBAL ART MOGUL
Amin Jaffer is a force to reckon with in the global art world. And with good reason. Author of Made for Maharajas and Treasures of the Mughals and the Maharajas: The Al Thani Collection and other iconic books, Jaffer is invested heavily in exploring the multitudinous avenues of art – from serving as the curator of the Victoria and Albert Museum and International Director of Asian Art at Christie’s in London to setting up a space to showcase the jewels and treasures of the Qatar royal family, he’s recently worked on an exhibition which was a tribute to the former Maharaja of Indore. HELLO! travels along to discover how the son of a businessman turned into a full-time art maestro and a prominent Indian voice in the international art circuit.
What are the current projects that you are involved with?
“I am working on a range of projects, and wishing that I had found some time to relax, following a particularly busy end to 2019! I was the guest curator for a recent major exhibition in took place at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, and it paid tribute to the extraordinary life of the Indian prince – who became a central figure of the international cultural milieu – of the 1920s and 1930s.
