    Mammon Money - Gideon Robbertse

    Prologue

We all know the famous words by our Lord Jesus Christ that you cannot serve God and Mammon, because you will love the one and hate the other. Why did He refer to the god of money? Why did He compare Himself with this god? As my good friend Almero used to say: the only god that God compared Himself with, was Mammon.

This Mammon god must then have a very significant influence on man’s life here on earth, for God to compare Himself with.  Money or greed must then be considered by God as the one idolatry that will cause a large portion of the human race to make it their god, to lust after it, rather than to serve and worship Almighty God.

If one compares God Almighty with Mammon, one may ask if it is true then that if I love God, does it necessarily imply that I must hate Mammon?  And conversely, if I love Mammon, does it imply that I hate God?

The main religion in the world today, is money and greed. [Phillip Goodchild The Theology of Money London: SCM Press, 2007]

It has been said that Money is the new religion in America - The church of the ATM.  [Chris Rock, actor comedian]. It has become the ‘global religion’. The world, society and people are governed, regulated, and eventually deceived by those in power of money and government, legal and other structures to maintain such powers.

My journey with this book started when I met late Dr Johan Joubert, a South African veterinary surgeon who has spent six years in the United Kingdom when he investigated the financial systems and government institutions of the world.  Initially I thought he was not in his right mind, but I decided to investigate everything he told me.  I soon realized there is something that I have missed all along.  The world is not what it seems to be.  A feeling was growing in me that we all have been greatly deceived by our enemy. And I will show this deceit to you in this book.

I have been trained as a lawyer and it was very difficult for me to agree with many theories about the financial systems of the world and how the banks create money, and how the power elite has created a fictitious world to sustain their control of all money and wealth on this planet. Although I have been specializing in and have been trained in commercial law, I attempted for a short period in my career as a lawyer to assist people with litigation in the courts against banks who foreclosed on their homes.  I was met with a vigorous legal system that only reacted to protect the current money system and control thereof, and I realized that any attempt by one man to bring down the mammon money system of this world, will not succeed.

But you will realize, after reading this book, that the power lies in the people, and if you want to come out of the bondage of debt and the money systems of the world, you will be able to share in the wealth that has been stored up for you by our Lord Jesus Christ, and all that it takes at the end of the day, is the question in who and what do you put your faith and trust?  If you trust the debt money system, reserve bank notes and coins as the currency with value, then you will remain under this bondage.

Finally, I wonder if it is true what was said by Honoré de Balzac: The final battle for Christianity will be over the money problem, and until that is solved there can be no universal application of Christianity.

I have decided to make references to all authors, books, articles and writings that I have used in the book, either because many readers will probably think that I am not promoting the truth -so at least there is some authority for facts mentioned, and secondly as a reference for further reading and studying by those who are interested.  This is such a complex topic, and I do not profess that I have covered everything that there is to be said about mammon and money in this book.

Bible Verses were quoted from the King James Translation.

    Chapter 1

    Who is Mammon?

    Meaning of the word Mammon

Mammon derives from late Latin 'mammon', from Greek 'μαμμωνάς', from Syriac 'mámóna' (riches), Aramaic 'mamon' (riches, money), a loan word from Mishnaic Hebrew 'ממון (mmôn) meaning money, wealth or possessions; although it may also have meant 'that in which one trusts'.

Mammon is referred to in the New Testament to describe material wealth or greed, most often personified as a deity, and sometimes included in the seven princes of Hell:

    a) Lucifer — Pride

    b) Mammon — Greed

    c) Asmodeus — Lust

    d) Satan — Wrath

    e) Beelzebub — Gluttony

    f) Leviathan — Envy

    g) Belphegor — Sloth

    The spirit of greed

Greed means an intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or money.

This spirit has always, since the Fall of Man, been with us.  It is believed that humans have, especially in the area of money, wealth and finances, been held captive and in bondage by Satan more than anything else, and that the world financial system will play a very large part in the end times.

    Two masters

When Jesus spoke of two masters whom men could serve, He said that the two were God and Mammon.

No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Luke. 16:13

Satan knows that most of the Christian work in the world is more dependent on Mammon (money and property) than on the power of the Holy Spirit. Satan is happy to be hidden out of sight, because he knows that he can deceive people better that way. He knows very well that when a believer is influenced by the love of mammon in his decisions, he is actually serving the prince of Mammon, even if he imagines that he is serving God. [Zac Poonen God and Mammon Christian Fellowship Church].

    Riches

It will be very difficult for a disciple of Jesus, if he is totally honest and wholehearted, to become rich through his business in a world that is under the dominion of Satan. To become a wealthy man in such a world, one would have to follow Satan's principles in some area or the other, and disobey the principles of God's Word. [Jack Poonen above]

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. (1 Tim.6:9). One who seeks to be rich towards God can never become rich in this world (Luke 12:21; 1 Tim.6:17).

    Unrighteous mammon

Unrighteous mammon is money or the power of this world system.  It is the world’s system of wealth, it is money. [Janie Baer God’s Word Alive]

He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.  Therefore, if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own? Luk 16:10-12

Why is money called ‘unrighteous’ mammon? In order to understand this, we need to know what the opposite is: righteousness.  ‘Righteousness’ has a legal connotation.  It means being morally right or justifiable.  Morals are the principles of right and wrong.  To be ‘right’. You are ‘right’ if you are found to be acceptable, justified.  You are excused, you have a defense. What you did, was found to be acceptable.  If so, then what you did is not found to be wrongful.  For you to be found ‘right’ with God, to be found acceptable, you must only do ONE thing: BELIEVE! One of the meanings of ‘mammon’ is ‘something to trust in’.  You will see later that today’s money has no value and is entirely based on the faith or confidence that people have in it.  In fact, if that faith lacks entirely, the whole global money system will collapse. Put simply – mammon is everything that is wrong.  It is not found to be right and acceptable.  Just as righteousness is imputed by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ  [Rom.4:6], so is the unrighteousness imputed by the faith in mammon.

The lie is the basis for criminal acts like theft and fraud.  Later on, when you read about the creation of money by banks, you will realize the vast unrighteousness of the current global money system, and how you have been lied to. You will also realize that the father of the lie, the old serpent, Satan, at all times had this plan to draw God’s people away from total committed faith in God to mammon.

Proverbs.12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

There are many things that are mentioned in the Bible that are an abomination to God.  ‘Abomination’ means ‘a thing that causes disgust or loathing’.  The very first abomination that we find in the Bible is the desire for silver or gold. [Deut. 7:25]

The next one that has to do with money is the use of filthy and sinful money in connection with God or any worship - money received by male and female prostitutes.  Note that in Deuteronomy 25:16 we read that the use of different weights and measures to weigh money (gold and silver), is
