Seawind’s flagship 1260 catamaran is an evolution of the popular 1250, which has proven itself across the world's oceans alongside its smaller sibling, the 1160.
Having sailed several of the original 1250s, even delivering one around the north of Australia, I can testify to their seaworthiness in all kinds of weather. Storm clouds looming on financial horizons during the GFC prompted the former Wollongong-based company to set off on a voyage of a different sort, to establish a more cost-effective base in Vietnam, which I visited to see their modern operation.
I recently caught up with boss Richard Ward in France, where he briefed me on further expansion plans for the now Hoh Chi Minh based company. “We are looking at building an entirely new purpose-built yard which will be near the water to allow much easier launching of our entire range of Seawinds and our Corsair brand as well.”
The 1260 follows in the wake of the previous model, right down to that familiar rounded topside profile that has positive shear to create more space
