Back in the day—and that day wasn’t that long ago—the ultimate achievement for any mountaineer was standing on Everest’s summit. And while Everest still remains high on many mountaineers’ bucket lists, the over-commercialisation and the ever-decreasing mountaineers wanting to achieve the ultimate goal is the world’s second highest mountain, K2. At least that’s the sense I get from reading Adrian Hayes account of his two attempts at the mountain.
