I have always admired old samplers. You get a whole scenic view, with a multitude of colors in a variety of shades, all made to fit in a small space. I wanted to try to create this same feeling in a quilt.

Material Requirements

□ ¼ yard brown with red flowers for house

□ ⅓ yard black solid for house and birds

□ ⅛ yard tan solid for window bars

□ ⅛ yard gold with stars for house

□ ⅛ yard red with gold flowers for door

□ ⅛ yard gray with white flowers for chimney and Smoke Star blocks

□ ⅓ yard dark gold with flowers for sunflowers

□ ¼ yard medium gold with circles for sunflowers

□ ¼ yard tone on tone green with stripes for leaves

□ ⅛ yard each orange with small black dots, gold with multi colored flowers, and a dark red with small x’s for Smoke Star blocks

□ ¼ yard brown with small dots for Smoke Star blocks and sunflower centers

□ ⅛ yard light gold with flowers for Sun Star block and sunflowers

□ ⅛ yard medium gold with burgundy vines for Sun Star block and appliqué

□ ⅙ yard medium orange with black vines for Sun Star block and appliqué

□ ⅛ yard dark orange with black circles for Sun Star block and appliqué

□ ⅛ yard black tone on tone for bird wings

□ ⅛ yard green tone on tone with vines for leaves

□ ¾ yard green tone on tone with circles for bias vine and leaves

□ 3 yards tone on tone tan vine print for background

□ 1¾ yards solid brown for sunflower centers, outer border and binding

□ 3½ yards fabric of choice for backing

□ Threads to match appliqué

□ Freezer Paper

Appliqué Preparation and Cutting Instructions

See page 7 for general appliqué preparation instructions. The templates in the insert do not include seam allowance.

From brown with red flowers, cut:

3 – 2½" x WOF strips then sub-cut into:

2 – 2½" x 17½" strips for house sides

2 – 2½" x 13½" strips for above door and windows

2 – 2½" x 4½" strips for between upper windows

2 – 2½" squares for above door

4 – 2" squares for above windows

2 – 1½" x 9½" strips for between door and
