Sailing an authentic ruwal oruwa

What is the most unusual boat you’ve ever sailed? YM reader Willem Schenk got in touch after taking part in ‘a very different and authentic sailing experience’ in Sri Lanka.

Willem was visiting the capital Colombo in November for a meeting and took part in the first ever regatta in Negombo Lagoon, organised by boat tour operator Romesh Fernando.

Rather than conventional yachts, crews had to sail traditional, which are used by local fishermen for coastal fishing.
