Geography & Music of Poetry

About this ebook
The first stanza of the poem 'Anthem of the World' by Hans Van Rostenberghe, is the perfect introduction to this Anthology. And further on he writes:
How I wish I had the musical talent
To sing the anthem of this wonderful nation
That is called the World.
...
It would be the anthem of Peace
...
The anthem of love and kindness
The anthem of nature and humanity
The anthem of truth and honesty
...
This is indeed the message that the poets whose poems make this collection, want to pass on to the readers, through their verses.

My most heartfelt thanks to Hans Van Rostenberghe, to my co-editor, Tom Billsborough, and to all the other poets who have contributed to this book. Grazie di cuore.

Carnival morning in Rio de Janeiro
"Canta o meu coração
Tão feliz a manhã deste amor"
Río emerges in the Guanavara Bay
drunk by music and dances of the Carnival
that promises perpetual joy
under the ephemeral eternity of the stars.
In the Sugarloaf Peak
the rhythm of the samba resounds,
and it falls like a rain flowers
on the bodies that burn
in the thirst of the night,
until the morning breeze lifts over the sea
the lucidity of day and ends the feast.
It's time to show the reverse of the masks,
the fake gold of allegorical cars,
and the dethroned kings and queens of the dance
who return to theirs favelas and leave behind all hope.
The haze is covering the granite eyes
of the Christ in the Corcovado Mountain,
and Orpheu's ghost deprived of music and voice
moves away in the blue.
Now the sun is shining on another awakening,
they all wonder if in the lies
the only truth is the sadness
of the Carnival morning.

Mañana de Carnaval en Rio de Janeiro
"Canta o meu coração
Tão feliz a manhã deste amor"
Llega la hora del revés de las máscaras;
