PREFACE
I do not wish to go into any great detail about my life before I became a Christian, but one thing is certain - I was a sinner and would have gone to hell had I died. My life was filled with the proverbial wine, women and song
. Yet there was this emptiness that eventually developed into a hunger for God. I grappled with the decision to become a Christian for a long time. I cannot describe to you the joy and peace that I now experience.
The writing of this book was motivated bythe fact that mankind has a hunger for God;
my opinion that millions of people are unsure about their relationship with God due to a lack of knowledge. The Word of God declares in Hosea 4:6: "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge";
the need for people to know that the Christian faith is not a philosophy or morality, the reaching of a certain standard. It is about a personal relationship with God as He revealed Himself to mankind through His son Jesus Christ;
the degree of uncertainty that people who have recently accepted Christ as their Saviour still have about their eternity and/or certain aspects of their spiritual life.I pray that this book will meet your need. You may want to read it yourself if you fall into one of the above categories or you may want to give it to a friend.
God bless and may you experience the joy and freedom that we, His children called Christians, are entitled to!

FOR YOUR INFORMATION
Christianity deals with spiritual aspects that often require a deeper understanding of issues than the human brain can comprehend. The various issues covered in this book may change your understanding of Christianity, leading to a more meaningful relationship with God. I will endeavour to enhance these truths by the grace of God so that you will obtain a clearer understanding, and I pray special blessings on you as you study these pages.
Various times in the book there is reference to:
A prayer:
Prayers addressed to God – you can make them your own as they may express your wishes or thoughts or requests.
A challenge.
Quotes from famous people.
Time to think ponder or meditate.
Please note:
I will be quoting verses from the Bible frequently in this book. Quotations appear in italics followed by the Bible reference. For example, 2 Timothy 3:16 means the Second Letter (or Epistle) to Timothy, chapter 3, verse 16.
The Scripture quotations in this publication are from the Good News Bible, Today’s English Version. (Copyright 1992, Bible Society of South Africa). The wording of the verses may thus differ slightly from other translations.
CHAPTER 1: WHERE ARE YOU NOW?
I believe that there are many people who are seeking answers to so many questions. While they may not openly admit it, they often desire answers to the biggest questions of all - questions about God, life, religion, and faith. I call them seekers. I was a genuine seeker for years. You may be a seeker, too!
Ponder:
Perhaps you have never been a religious person, but the state of the world today, or something that has happened in your family or in your own life, has made you think about God
Perhaps you were brought up to go to Church or Sunday School, but the day came when you stopped attending either. Now you are wondering whether there might be some value in them after all
Perhaps you still go to Church, but it seems deadly dull, without any real power or meaning - a performance, but not an experience.
Perhaps Christianity means nothing to you. Whenever you think of the church
, you think only of a building where people are christened, married or buried. Perhaps you know somebody who is not just religious but claims to be a real Christian, and whose life seems so obviously different from yours that it has made you start to think.
Perhaps you want to believe, but you never seem to have time to think things through.
This book is for seekers - for people who want to give sensible and honest thought to the whole question of their relationship with God. It is not an examination of all the world’s religions that ends by saying, Now choose the one you like best
. It is not a scientific textbook, which turns religion into equations and faith into a formula. It is not a vague and airy-fairy collection of various points of view.
It is a plain, straightforward book showing how a person who is honestly seeking God can find Him.
Are you a genuine seeker? Then put aside your prejudices and preconceived ideas, come to the Bible and ask God to make its truth clear to you. Perhaps this prayer will help you to express your thoughts:
Almighty and eternal God, I am out of touch with You and need to find You. There are many things in the Bible (and life) that I do not understand. Enable me to come now with an open mind. Speak to me through what I read, showing me who You are, and how I can come to know You. Help me now to seek You with all my heart, and to find You. Amen
Is that what you want? Then stop and think it over carefully.
Now read the prayer again, making it your own, from the depths of your heart. But before you do, listen to this wonderful promise which God makes to all those who are sincere in their search for Him: "You will seek me, and you will find me because you will seek me with all your heart".
