About this ebook

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Happened One Summer and Hook, Line, and Sinker returns with a unique, sexy rom-com about a young married couple whose rocky relationship needs a serious renovation...

Rosie and Dominic Vega are the perfect couple: high school sweethearts, best friends, madly in love. Well, they used to be anyway. Now Rosie’s lucky to get a caveman grunt from the ex-soldier every time she walks in the door. Dom is faithful and a great provider, but the man she fell in love with ten years ago is nowhere to be found. When her girlfriends encourage Rosie to demand more out of life and pursue her dream of opening a restaurant, she decides to demand more out of love, too. Three words: marriage boot camp.

Never in a million years did Rosie believe her stoic, too-manly-to-emote husband would actually agree to relationship rehab with a weed-smoking hippie. Dom talking about feelings? Sitting on pillows? Communing with nature? Learning love languages? Nope. But to her surprise, he’s all in, and it forces her to admit her own role in their cracked foundation. As they complete one ridiculous—yet surprisingly helpful—assignment after another, their remodeled relationship gets stronger than ever. Except just as they’re getting back on track, Rosie discovers Dom has a secret... and it could demolish everything.

“Her voice feels as fresh and contemporary as a Netflix rom-com.” —Entertainment Weekly

This is my first book by Tessa Bailey. Rosie and Dominic have been married for about 10 years, half of those years he was in the military and overseas a lot of the time. They were childhood sweethearts. Since leaving the military, Dominic has not been his old self and communication has broken down between them. One day Rosie decides she has had enough and leaves him. The rest of the book is about how they deal with their separation and learning how to communicate with each other. There were definitely some steamy parts to this book. At times I was ready to say, "Enough already! We get it - you are both obsessed with each other. So talk already!" I think the book would have been good without quite so much of the steamy detail, but that's me. I liked the parts about their marriage counseling and their homework assignments that helped them learn more about each other. Rosie learns that she was just as responsible for the breakdown of their marriage as Dominic was. I was glad we were given the story from both of their perspectives. I thought this was good and would recommend. Skip over the steamy stuff if you are not a fan. There is still a lot of interesting story.

I usually prefer historical romance, but this book made me want to try more contemporary stuff. The marriage counseling plot was really funny and sweet, and it's nice to see characters being more open about certain topics. That said, it's an eternal truth that so much could have been solved if they just talked to each other! Even when I know a HEA is coming, I hate knowing about a Big Secret standing between the main characters until the very end.

I received a copy of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I kinda loved this. This is the second romance book I have read in recent months that started at the potential end of a marriage and covered coming back from the brink. That works for me based on my life experience. Some things did not ring true. The idea that a 27 year old construction worker and his perfume spritzer spouse could buy their dream house and a commercial property (for which they paid cash) in Port Jeff is absurd. Frugality will never get you there. Port Jeff is on the north shore of Long Island, a healthy distance from NYC but commutable and perfect for weekend houses and therefore pricy). The median home price on the North Fork is around 700k. That is one well paid spritzer. Still it was really sweet. I like my characters a bit more brainy than these two, but that is a minor quibble and personal to me, Really fun.

I was first introduced to this author with her Romancing the Clarksons series. I really enjoyed those books. I have not read the first book in this new series but I plan to go back and read the first one after finishing this book. Instantly, I loved Rosie and Dominic. I felt the sexual chemistry between them. It was "raw" and "strong". It was nice to see that Dominic was willing to give couples therapy a chance. In fact, they both were committed to the task. It showed that there was still lots of love between them. This book had me laughing, smiling, hot and bothered. It was a pure joy to read this book. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

I really wanted to like this book because I so enjoyed the first one in the "Hot and Hammered" series but honestly this second installment was a let down. The romantic progression was entirely unbelievable, it was misogynistic, and did I mention unbelievable. This married couple has mind blowing sex - constantly - they've only ever been with each other and have never even flirted with someone else, let alone bone them. The sex is constant and amazing but they never talk anymore so the wife decides to get therapy to jolt them back to the way they used to be. UGH. I'm not even inspired to write anymore about this book - I'll still read the next one - but I did not care for this one.
