Foreword
The Power of Visualization has been made available at a time when it is most needed. With the advancement in technology, and global changes in social-economic, political environments, and society in general, humanity is slowly becoming dissociated from true human interaction at intrapersonal and interpersonal levels. Technology advancement has given rise to new challenges in society, which requires a rethink and a re-evaluation on how to increase human interaction at intrapersonal and interpersonal levels.
This book is a true and unique masterpiece. Not only do Fatuma Swaleh and Raymond Aaron holistically discuss visualization, Fatuma goes deeper into giving real-life examples of individuals who have used the technique. She goes further to show scientific proof that visualization indeed works and that it delivers desired results.
The world, as you know, it is but a tiny part of an expansive universe, which is governed by natural laws. These laws govern a complex planetary and star system. Visualization is one of the natural resources, which is available to humanity. Use visualization to navigate your daily life and to live it to the fullest.
Great physicists, architects, generals, world leaders, athletes, artists, and entrepreneurs (anyone successful, really) all understand the importance of visualization in achievement. Organizations and individuals are continually searching for better ways to make their businesses more efficient yet innovative. They are all striving to attract high performing, innovative individuals. With the rising need for innovation comes the need for techniques that can create habits and behaviors which support innovation. One such technique is visualization. Visualization has the potential to make you more innovative, a great critical thinker, and problem solver.
The power in visualization is fact, not fiction. It has been proven, going back to the days of Roger Bannister (the British neurologist who broke the four-minute barrier when running the mile), that creating clear images in your mind of what it is you want to do will significantly increase the odds of fulfilling the task. Why is this true? Why is visualization so powerful? One reason is that the mind cannot tell the difference between something imagined and something that has happened. Visualization makes innovation and forecasting our successes possible.
Fatuma and Raymond take you on a journey from the basics of using visualization to the manifestations of such a tool in your personal life, your business, and your community. There’s no way you can read this book and not come away with an understanding of visualization, and the skills to use it to make a significant difference in your life …
Manifest your best thoughts, desires, and aspirations. Enrich your current circumstances to achieve the reality you’ve always wanted. Shape and control the output of your inner subconscious mind. Switch from negative to positive thinking. Move from low energy to high energy and take many more unique and powerful steps to become the person you’ve always wanted to be and achieve the dreams of your heart.
Dr. Rukia M. Swaleh – Youth Mentor, Toronto
Introduction
The Power of Visualization examines the use of visualization in all aspects of your life. Beginning with the creation of a clear mental image of the intention, you want to manifest, and supported by the idea that using visualization when the goal is within achievable distance leads to increased effort and commitment will lead to success. Fatuma Swaleh takes you on a very personal journey regarding the kindling of visualization in the young right up to, and including, the presidents of huge companies or organizations.
You’ll recognize achievement processes like identifying needs and then setting goals to achieve them. But Fatuma applies visualization to these things, focusing on such areas as manifesting your best thoughts, desires, and aspirations; enriching the imagination of your mind to get your desired outcome; switching from negative, low energy thinking to positive, high energy thinking; and planning, implementing and achieving your goals.
There are different ways that you can practice visualization, involving the use of all your senses examples of touch, smell, taste, sound, and speech (both internal and audible). Although visualization using mental images is the one most understood processes in the science of visualization, you can engage your brain during visualization in other ways. The different methods of visualization include using spoken words, for example, and practicing your positive affirmations, which are intended to keep you in motivation mode. Other approaches include the use of music or sound waves and controlling your physical body using your thoughts—such as athletes rehearsing a race in their mind. Finally, yet of significant importance, Fatuma focuses on relationships and relating to your inner self.
Embracing visualization in all aspects of your life is the purpose of this detailed treatise. It puts an astounding power within your grasp, something that superstars of all walks of life have known all along. Now you’ll know how to harness it as well. Enjoy …
Chapter One
What Visualization Truly Is
There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspace of the universe. A thought in this substance produces that thing that is imaged by the thought
Wallace D. Wattles
What is visualization and why is it imperative to you?
Visualization is a technique you apply using your mind’s eye ⁷, ¹², ²⁰. It’s the process of creating a clear mental image or intention of what you want to happen or achieve. The mental image can involve all five senses—hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting, and touching.
Visualization is essential in many powerful ways. First, the mind can’t tell the difference between the imagined and reality. So, by creating a clear mental image, you’re learning from the experience as if it was real. Because of this, all successful athletes use the technique; they can create muscle memory just by imagining what they intend to do. Second, by imagining something you plan to do, you are giving your mind a command to do that thing. It will automatically pursue the command on your behalf. Third, you can overwrite bad experiences and beliefs by imagining new ones. That’s right; you can rewrite your past by changing what it means to you. Changing your history involves changing your beliefs regarding each specific experience you want to purge.
How does all of this work? Visualized images are transmitted and stored in your brain for ease of recall, and they are also transmitted to the universe to attract resources to create your reality. As you visualize in your conscious mind, the messages are transmitted to your subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is the key that connects you to higher infinite intelligence, the master creator of everything there was, everything there is, and everything that will be. Your subconscious mind is also your source of new thoughts and ideas. If you take time to think about your issue, the subconscious mind is capable of providing you with ideas to solve the problem. The subconscious mind is a powerhouse with fantastic resources that are under-utilized by many. You can unlock these resources through the power of visualization.
It’s generally known that the human brain weighs about three pounds, consists of 100 billion nerve cells and can store massive amounts of information¹². It’s a fact that everything in the world that is human-made has its origin in thought formed in the human brain. The most celebrated physicists of all time have used visualization to make sense of the world around us. The only way Einstein was able to test his famous formulas was by using visualization, as it was impossible to run experiments in the real world. (He was so far ahead of his time that the technology required to prove his theorems didn’t exist!) Moreover, if visualization was that important to Einstein, countless other physicists, scientists, professional sportspeople, artists, and most successful people, you need to understand its importance to you too.
Visualization works best when you know the result you want to achieve. How will you tell that the achievement of this thing is due to visualization? I would suggest that sudden improvement and significant learning outcomes are two signs that visualization is/was in play. The same can be expected if you’re applying visualization to your business if you’re looking into transforming your habits and character as well as if you wish to improve your social life and take it to a higher level. Visualization has the potential to help you achieve positive change and growth in all areas of your life.
As you read through this book, you’re going to learn and master visualization techniques which will be most valuable for accomplishing your life-tasks. You’ll find out that when you create images based on whatever circumstance you have chosen to focus on, it makes learning or creative thinking much more comfortable than you had envisioned. Surprisingly enough, you’ll find out that you are doing much better in all areas of your life, and this is because you’re using visualization. I can promise you that as you expand the application of visualization, the results are likely to be amazing. Not only does visualization assist with making the improvements that you’re seeking, but other benefits such as feelings of accomplishment, enjoyment, and confidence will also kick in, taking your self-esteem and energies to new levels. You’ll soon begin to love what you’re doing, and you’ll become hopeful once more (that you are on the right track in your life).
In the chapters that follow, I’ll use the story of a little girl who started using visualization at the age of 11 years. She wasn’t aware that what she was applying was a scientific method used in learning³, ¹². She applied visualization to all her schoolwork, and what followed was amazing. Not only did her grades improve, she felt great, and her school life became enjoyable. She confessed that she loved being in school more than being at home. Whenever the school term ended, and she went home, she often looked forward to returning to school for her next term. That’s the kind of positive transformation that using visualization will bring about in your own life.
The girl’s success in school opened the door to better interaction with other students who were top performers, and her self-confidence rose to new heights. Soon she developed a feeling of self-control, and her personality became more enriched than before she joined the new school. She particularly enjoyed storytelling, and most of her stories were made on the go. Nobody ever taught her how to create stories, but at that young age, she was able to create compelling stories in her mind for her audience. She could develop a plot and build it up to a fantastic climax. All these events happened because she was able to visualize events in her mind in a consistent manner to create amazing, entertaining stories which thrilled her schoolmates. The teachers started to take notice of her performance as she moved through grades six and seven. As an adult, when she looked back, she realized that this was the wow
moment when she positioned herself for success that came later in life.
When was the moment you realized that you could use visualization to make things better? When did your wow
moment happen? If you haven’t had any experience with visualization, you’ve made the perfect choice by selecting this book.
The technique of visualization has served the little girl well over the years and continues to be one of the tools in her toolbox that she has repeatedly applied in life to achieve excellent outcomes. Visualization will serve you well, and your mastery and successful use of it will open the door for better relationships with your business partners, social contacts, family and friends, thus elevating your confidence to new heights. Soon you’ll develop the feeling of self-control, and your personality will become more enriched.
In this book, I share practical methods of how to apply visualization. I also share techniques that may lead to improvements in all areas as you traverse the trajectory of life. This book is meant for sharing how visualization continues to be a technique that has created success and abundance in many people’s lives, and it can do the same in your life. Read on
