As a bodyguard you are going to hear all kinds of things when riding in the car with your Boss, some of the things will make you smile, some will frustrate you, some will make you angry and some you will simply not understand. One of the fastest ways to unemployment is to give any kind of unsolicited comments, opinions, mimics or body language as reactions to the things you hear. There will be other times when the Boss will ask your opinion on something. That isn’t always a bad thing. CEOs and Big Business Bosses sometimes need a different point of view. Remember we don’t live in the same world as they do and our focus (reality) is always different to theirs. They sometimes appreciate our opinions. Just know when to stop and never make personal attacks.
I was driving with the CEO of a major car manufacturer on the way to work one day, he was talking on the phone to one of his upper level managers and the topic was high finance
and bail out
packages. Now I have to say – like anyone in this situation it’s hard not to listen and I tried my best to understand how it all works. But, I really have no idea about big business and high finance. The Boss, who I really liked, he saw that I was a little perplexed about the topic. He asked what it was that I didn’t understand and I told him – bail-out
systems. He smiled and told me the following story as to how they work and to understand them.
It was a slow day in a little Greek village. The rain was beating down and the streets were deserted. Times are tough everywhere in the land, everybody is in debt, and everyone lives on credit.
On this particular day a rich German tourist is driving through the village, he stops at the local hotel and lays a 200 Euro note on the desk, telling the hotel owner that he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night.
The hotel owner gives him a key to every available room in the hotel; as soon as the visitor walked up the stairs, the hotel owner grabbed the 200 Euros and ran next door to pay his debt at the butchers. The butcher in turn took the 200 Euro and
