- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Man Gave Names To All The Animals“Man Gave Names To All The Animals” by Bob Dylan was an outstanding book! I read this book to my step-son and he immediately began reading the “chorus” with me! The book is also a song and comes with the CD, which creates a patterned language and writing that readers can’t help but to become engaged in. “Man gave names to all the animals, in the beginning, in the beginning. Man gave names to all the animals, in the beginning, long time ago” is the chorus throughout the book. Additionally, it has traditional Bob Dylan style with “ah” being used whenever he names the animal. For example, “Ah, think I’ll call it a bear”. The illustrations are amazing! The fill the pages with lifelike color and animals in all spaces. Once you get to the end of the book, the reader learns there are 170 animals hidden in the book to go back and find. This book is on my wish list for my future classroom! The big idea is to illustrate a children’s book with the Bob Dylan song and to entertain children.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I am torn, I like Bob Dylan and I like Jim Arnosky's illustrations, but this book could easily be confused as nonfiction to a child. The song and book are about man naming animals in Eden. This was written by Dylan after he became religious. But I give it three stars because the illustrations are fantastic, there are over 170 animals illustrated in this book. Also, it is fun to listen to the song while reading along.
