    Who is Sophie Chandler

    Introduction

Welcome to The Complete Guide to Writing Erotica.

When I was a beginner trying to figure out how to start in my writing career, I researched a lot about how to write erotica; but because it can be such a lucrative career if done well, I found it was actually rather hard to find accurate information on how to get into this business. A lot of the advice given by people online is well intentioned, but most of it is actually rather misleading. Why? Because they don’t want you to take a piece of their cake.

But I think that there’s enough cake for everyone. Sex sells, after all, and I think we can all profit equally from that.

That’s why in this book I want to help you figure out how to get into the business of writing erotica – and make no mistake, erotica writing is a business. Erotica is not like any other genre out there. It’s special, with its own complicated set of rules and regulations.

I’ve learned a lot in these few years of writing under a variety of pen names, and now I want to share this knowledge with you.

If you’ve never written anything before in your life, then you chose the best market to dip your toes in. There’s nothing quite like writing erotica, and we’ll discuss why it’s a good market for beginner writers in the first part of this book.

If you are already a writer in another genre then grab onto your hat, because I’m going to be tipping your world upside down. Writing erotica is unlike anything you’ve done before – and yes, that counts even if you’re a romance author.

In this book I’ll teach you everything I’ve learned, from what it takes to be an erotica writer to how to actually write your stories and more importantly, how to make a profit.

If you want to learn more and figure out if you have what it takes to become an erotica writer, then read on!

    Part 1

    Before you Begin

What is the difference between erotica and romance?

In order to become a writer of erotica, we first need to understand what erotica is and what it isn’t. A lot of people tend to confuse a lot of these terms, I did too at first, so I’ve decided to break it down into a pretty simple set of definitions.

    Erotica

Stories where the plot is based on or around sex as the main theme. It may or may not have happy endings (depending on whether you’re writing horror erotica or mainstream, for example) and may or may not involve romantic feelings between the parties involved.
