About this ebook

This cookbook is a collection of southern Africa recipes that are favorites of Detective Kubu - the gourmet detective in Botswana who features in the mysteries by Michael Stanley.
The book covers special drinks from southern Africa and a number of recipes for appetizers.  There is a collection of main courses that are popular in the region - and favorites of Kubu - but may be unusual and exotic for western cooks. Finally several interesting desserts that make Kubu's mouth water.
A Taste of Africa also has some fun information about Kubu's eating and drinking habits and ideas about diet, and great sketches of Kubu at 'work' like the one on the cover!
The recipes in the KUkBUk have been tried and tested on friends from different countries and pronounced delicious.  We enjoy them regularly.  Try them out for something a bit different and interesting.
Have fun cooking and bon appetit!

A Taste of Africa - Michael Stanley

    KUkBUk

Assistant Superintendent David Kubu Bengu is the main character of a series of detective mysteries by Michael Stanley that are set in the land-locked country of Botswana in Southern Africa.

Kubu a large man with a large appetite.  His nickname Kubu means hippopotamus in the local language, so you get the general idea.  He enjoys food and wine and is often found frequenting Gaborone’s eating establishments.  If it comes to a choice of quantity or quality, Kubu always chooses quality – as long as the quantity is sufficient!

Readers are always asking us about the African dishes that appear in the Kubu books, so, in this small collection of recipes, we have highlighted the type of food that Kubu enjoys, as well as food that is typical of Botswana.  The two are not always the same.  We have also included a variety of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, that Kubu is known to quaff, including his favorite steelworks.

We hope you enjoy trying out these recipes.  They will expand your understanding of both Kubu and southern Africa.  They may expand other parts of you too.

Please let us know how you like them or if you have tweaked them to make them more delicious.  We are
