Introduction
Contrary to its name, Japanese forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, has nothing to do with wallowing in water surrounded by trees. In reality, it’s the act of being among trees, absorbing the ambience of a forest. In Japan, the practice of forest bathing has existed for decades, ever since the government heavily invested in a nationwide program to promote health and well-being among its people.
