    INTRODUCTION

    There are things to consider when it comes to making use of an instant pot. Such considerations include its operational know how and the appropriate way to use it.

    The instant pot is a little but powerful equipment in the kitchen. It is a combination of functions in one. In the instant pot, you have yourself a yogurt maker, slow cooker, and rice cooker.

    The instant pot works with pressure manipulation and this is why you are able to get boiling water at a different boiling point without altitude change. The steam generated at this changed boiling point is sealed in and this raises the boiling point. This was initially designed for hikers who need to cook on mountain peaks but has found great use in the kitchen of your home due to the advantages it offers which include time efficiency and enhanced flavor.

    There are so many advantages the instant pot has over other pressure cookers which include a stainless inner cooking pot and other features such as a handled trivet which lay to rest your worry about handling hot pots.

    INSTANT POT SETTINGS AND BUTTONS

    PRESSURE/MANUAL BUTTONS

    These buttons are mostly used on the instant pot. They allow you to select preferred time manually and pressure cook. The temperature, time and pressure can be easily adjusted by pressing the +/- buttons.

    CHILI/BEAN

    This button is specifically to cook beans on the instant pot faster and gives it unbelievable taste. The button defaults at 30 minutes cook time with high pressure which easily can be adjusted for higher or lower cook time.

    SLOW COOK

    The instant pot gives an amazing slow cook experience. All you need to do is put your food in the instant pot and select the slow cook option. This by default is set to cook for 4 hours but can easily be adjusted with the +/- buttons.

    STEW/MEAT

    This button is best when cooking meat and can be adjusted depending on the meat texture. By default, it is set to cook for 35 minutes at high pressure but can easily be adjusted with the +/- buttons.

    SAUTE BUTTON

    The sauté button is found to be the second most used button as this can cook anything in a pan or skillet.

    POULTRY

    This by default is set to cook your chicken recipes for 15 minutes at high pressure. This can be adjusted with the +/- button.

    CANCEL BUTTON/KEEP WARM

    This easily allows you to cancel your cooking at any time of your choice or keep your food warm for a certain period of time before you continue cooking.

    COOKING MEASUREMENTS AND CONVERSIONS

    BREAKFAST

    ITALIAN STYLE POTATOES

    TOTAL TIME: 12 MINUTES      SERVES: 2

    Ingredients:

    1 cup of chopped chives

    Water

    4 washed gold potatoes

    1 tablespoon of bacon fat

    2 teaspoons of Italian seasoning

    Pepper and salt

    Instructions:

    Place the potatoes in the instant pot and pour in water. Make sure it is enough to cover them. Close the instant pot and set to high heat. Cook for 10 minutes.

    After cooking, allow natural release of pressure and take out the potatoes.

    Peel and transfer the potatoes to a bowl and gently mash a bit with a fork.

    Set sauté mode on the instant pot and add in bacon fat. Allow to heat and then add in the seasoning, potatoes, pepper and salt. Close the instant pot and cook for 1 minute at high.

    After cooking, quick release pressure and stir the potatoes. Serve and sprinkle with chives.

    PUMPKIN BUTTER BREAKFAST

    TOTAL TIME: 25 MINUTES      SERVES: 18

    Ingredients:

    3 cored, chopped and peeled apples

    30-ounces of pumpkin puree

    12-ounces of apple cider

    1 pinch of salt

    1 tablespoon of pumpkin spice

    ½ cup of honey

    1 cup of sugar

    Instruction:

    Open the instant pot and mix in the pumpkin spice, pumpkin puree, sugar, apple pieces, cider, honey and salt.

    Stir and close the instant pot. Cook for 10 minutes at high.

    After cooking, allow natural pressure release for 15 minutes. Transfer gently, the butter into little jars and refrigerate until you are ready to serve.

    Nutrition: Calories: 50, Fiber: 0g, Fat: 1g, Sugar: 9g, Carbs: 10g, Protein: 1g

    TASTY TOFU BREAKFAST

    TOTAL TIME: 17 MINUTES      SERVES: 4

    Ingredients:

    2 teaspoons of vinegar

    1 bunch of chopped kale leaves

    ¼ cup of chopped almonds

    3-ounces of baked and cubed tofu

    1 teaspoon of paprika

    1 thinly sliced leek cut lengthwise into halves

    ½ cup of water

    1 tablespoon of olive oil

    1 pinch of cayenne pepper

    Salt

    Instructions:

    Set sauté mode on the instant pot and pour in oil. Allow to heat up.

    Add in the leeks and stir. Sauté for 5 minutes.

    Add in the paprika and then stir. Allow cooking for a minute.

    Add in kale, water, cayenne and salt. Close the instant pot and cook for 2 minutes set at high.

    Quick release after cooking and add in vinegar and tofu. If desired, add in some more salt then stir.

    Transfer to serving plates and top with almonds.

    Nutrition: calories: 170, Fat: 12g, Carbs: 18g, Fiber: 7g, Protein: 16g

    FRENCH TOAST

    TOTAL COOK TIME: 40 MINUTES      Serves: 6

    Ingredients:

    Orange Sauce:

    ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon

    ¼ cup of orange juice

    ½ cup of sugar

    2 cups of cranberries

    1 pinch of salt

    For Toast:

    ½ cup of sugar
