INTRODUCTION
Feeling happy and satisfied is a brain process. When it comes to human emotions, psychologists and philosophers have debated the core nature of human emotions such as sadness or happiness for many years. The main question here are these emotional states of our personal cognitive judgments or is there a supernatural soul within our bodies.
WHAT ARE EMOTIONS?
Emotions may be our personal perceptions of countless psychological changes occurring. These questions were answered with the many advances in the varying neuroscience fields which suggest how human brains generate these emotions through certain combinations of our bodily awareness as well as through our personal intellectual appraisal.
Imagine that something very good happens today. You may get accepted to Harvard or you may win a large amount of money from the lottery. These things will naturally bring happy vibes to you, but the main question is what these feelings of happiness really amount to.
Speaking on that major dualist view, you as a unique person with all your bodily and mental characteristics consist both of your soul and your body, and your soul is the one experiencing several mental states such as sadness or happiness.
This dualistic view comes with the appealing implication saying that you can feel many states such as happiness or sadness even after your body formation is gone, as your soul is the one continuing to exist in other locations, such as heaven. This dualistic way of thinking is one of the main explanations regarding human emotions.
On the other hand, there are also two major scientific ways as well which explain the core nature of human emotions. One of them regarding the cognitive appraisal theory which states that our emotions are simple judgments and are based on how we react to the things happening in our lives. An emotional reaction is triggered inside us based on how we respond to what we are seeing, hearing, or touching. We make a mental assessment and react built upon that judgment.
In this way, we can determine if our current situation and the things occurring in our life is in step with meeting our life goals founded on our reactions. Moreover, those feelings of happiness are the evaluation that your life goals are being satisfied.
Therefore, winning the lottery and solving your financial issues is one of your life goals being satisfied as you have no longer any financial worries bothering you. If a person who you like asks you out, this brings happiness and your romantic needs are being satisfied.
When it comes to the cognitive appraisal theory, like the feelings of happiness, the feelings of sadness can strike just as easily. These feelings are the evaluation of your goals that are not being satisfied. Moreover, anger that sometimes comes with sadness is your personal judgment which is aimed at those things or people who are blocking your goals of accomplishment or attaining success.
Moreover, some psychologists have argued that the human emotions we experience on a daily are just our personal perceptions of changes that occur within our bodies such as our breathing rate, heart rate, and hormone levels or perspiration.
When it comes to this specific view on human emotions, they describe a variety of emotions as
