    Dedication

This book is dedicated to my beloved wife, Myrna…and to my wonderful children, Chelsea and Paul II, both of whom inspired me to write this book. My hope is that, later in my children’s lives, it will provide them with a practical blueprint to solve problems, attract fulfillment and prosperity into their lives and enable them to truly master the Art of Living Well Daily. My family is truly my secret to living well.

    Introduction: Believe, Think and Decide

There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.

    - Colin Powell

I want to share a few names with you. And I’m willing to bet you know more than a few of them.

    Steve Jobs.

    Bill Gates.

    Oprah Winfrey.

    Richard Branson.

    Mark Cuban.

    Henry Ford.

    Mary Kay Ash.

    Mark Zuckerberg.

    Steven Spielberg.

    Ray Kroc.

As I said, I am sure you recognize most of the above names, because they are all linked to huge success. Jobs and Gates, of course, revolutionized the world of personal computing. Oprah Winfrey became a megastar at a time when African-American women were rarely seen on television. Richard Branson became an international mogul, renowned for his dashing and daring persona. Mark Cuban is one of the multimillionaire investors from the U.S. version of Shark Tank, as well as owner of the Dallas Mavericks and many, many other companies. Henry Ford created the modern car factory, while Mary Kay Ash revolutionized the cosmetics industry with her Mary Kay line, which still sells billions of dollars of merchandise a year. Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook, a social media platform that currently has more users (2.3 billion) than any country in the world has people. Steven Spielberg is, of course, one of the most renowned and revered filmmakers in the world, while Ray Kroc created the mammoth fast food success story McDonalds, which revolutionized the restaurant business.

These famous figures have something else in common too—a complete dedication to success in their chosen field. In most cases, they were trailblazers, creating whole industries that didn’t even exist before they created them.

Perhaps most importantly, what these moguls have in common is they literally came from nowhere to become internationally admired figures that inspired millions of others to emulate their paths. Henry Ford was the son of a farmer, Mary Kay the daughter of a nurse and Oprah, the daughter of an unmarried teen mom. Spielberg? A typical baby boomer from a typical suburban family. Richard Branson sold record albums out of his car trunk as the first step on the way to creating his Virgin brand, while Mark Cuban, at the age of 12, sold garbage bags door to door so he could buy himself a pair of expensive athletic shoes he wanted.

All of these people had humble beginnings, but they also had something else—the passion and the drive to pursue success, as well as the ability to not be distracted from what they wanted to achieve. And, when facing setbacks, they never allowed themselves to be discouraged for long from their goals.

    Now, let’s talk about you.

Your ideas of how to achieve success were most likely formed by your parents’ advice and example. They grew up in a time when you worked hard, usually for the same company, and aimed your efforts at doing your specific job for that company as well as you could. That was how you got promoted, made more money and advanced both your life and lifestyle.

And that trajectory was the basis for the American dream—owning your own home, having a family vacation or two every year, getting a new car every other year and, in general, living a prosperous and secure life.

But then the world changed. I’ll talk more about why and how those changes occurred in this book, but the upshot was that, suddenly, having only one breadwinner in a household wasn’t enough. Both spouses had to work in most families to make ends meet. Then things got even worse. Some parents had to work more than one job to pay the bills—leaving them little time to interact with their children, let alone enjoy a vacation!

And that’s why I wrote this book.

The traditional methods of achieving success your parents may have taught you are no longer effective. Your parents or caregivers certainly didn’t mean any harm by passing them on to you—they had no idea the economic conditions would undergo such a radical transformation. But the fact remains—mastering the Art of Living Well Daily now requires a whole different set of talents, knowledge, experience and attributes, not to mention a mindset dedicated to goals and objectives far different in the past.

I have studied this subject intensely. And, in this book, I will share the secrets I have unlocked that will help you master the Art of Living Well Daily.

I call them secrets, because I believe most people are still not aware of how to adapt to how times have changed. When I talk to other adults, I find most of them are dissatisfied with their lives. They’re not where they expected to be at this point in their lives—and, worst of all, they’re not sure why they haven’t achieved more!

If you’re among this group, you are certainly not alone. Radical changes in the world economy over the past few decades have produced a completely new reality that many people have struggled to adapt to. Globalization has kept wages low and competition high for the average worker/employee. The normal 9-to-5 job doesn’t deliver the rewards it used to.

So how do we deal with this new reality? How do we overcome the obstacles put in place by these ever-changing market forces and transform our own lives into ones of wealth and abundance?

This book is designed to help you answer those questions and create your own success. Because you can still succeed—and on your terms.

I’m sure you face challenges in your everyday life that seem almost impossible to overcome. Everyone has these kinds of obstacles in their lives, obstacles that they believe will not allow them to reach the goals and obtain the outcomes they desire. That belief is what limits them—but don’t let it limit you. Instead, you need to put into action the right tools and processes that will allow you to push past these challenges and become successful.

This book contains those tools and processes, all based on three principles of success that all the people I mentioned at the beginning of this chapter used to make their dreams into exciting reality. Once you understand and implement these three principles, you will be able to find your way to your own personal prosperity. In this book, you’ll also find the powerful and proven steps you must take in order to make these principles an integral part of your life.

I don’t want you to think that the information I’m about to share is just the typical success advice you’ll find in other books. This advice is based on the hard-won knowledge of my real-life experience. As you’ll learn in Chapter 2, my own personal dream was to become a doctor, in order that I might help others and live a life of meaning and purpose. But, as you’ll see, it seemed like an almost impossible dream to achieve.

I couldn’t accept that it was impossible, however. I had to believe it was possible. I had to believe that I could have everything that I desired in this life in order to obtain it. And that is your biggest challenge as well.

You can have everything you want. Just because you don’t have it now, just because that dream seems too far away to even imagine reaching, doesn’t mean you won’t be able to realize
