Description

Show #433   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 3rd April 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   TESLA REPORTS Q1 PRODUCTION AND DELIVERIES "Tesla reported a total of approximately 63,000 vehicles delivered globally in Q1 2019. Deliveries fell 31 percent from the fourth quarter of 2018, but Tesla says they rose 110 percent compared to Q1 2018." Reports InsideEVs.com today: "The automaker breaks this down for us as follows: Model 3: 50,900, Model S and Model X: 12,100. The automaker also blamed its expansion into Europe and China for slowdowns in getting cars from its Fremont, California factory to customers for its lower delivery figures. That may inflate Q2 numbers due in July. Tesla also attributed the push to get cars to customers by the end of 2018 to take advantage of the full $7,500 federal tax credit partially deflated Q1 numbers. While it expects its financial picture for the quarter to worsen over the last earnings period, Tesla says it still has, “sufficient cash on hand.”   But what else did Q1 hold? They began construction of the Chinese Gigafactory and if you haven't seen the YouTube videos, the rate of progress is almost ridiculous it's so fast. They revealed AND put on sale the Model Y. They paid off almost 1bn in cash, they don't need to raise capital and whilst the car market watches itself implode, they're not only in huge growth but they're dragging an entire industry along with them.   com Forum user Nix: "77K production vs. 63K deliveries shows the one-time cost to prime the EU and China pipelines was approx. 2-3 weeks worth of sales that were delayed in the pipeline. Key word “delayed”. This fact has been predicted for over a year, and it is a normal and natural part of opening up a new pipeline to overseas markets. Every manufacturing company who has ever opened an overseas pipeline has a one-time cost for priming that pipeline. This is the breaking of the eggs moment in the making of the omelette. It is a one-quarter ONLY known and necessary delay between production and delivery roughly equal to the additional time it takes to transport cars through the pipeline. The result is a primed delivery pipeline to new markets that are now open. Anyone confused into believing this is anything other than a good thing in the long term is badly mistaken."   TEslarati reports: "By the end of the quarter, Tesla had 10,600 vehicles in transit to customers, which are expected to be delivered in early Q2 2019. Tesla stated that the company had delivered roughly half of the quarter’s deliveries in the last 10 days, largely due to the time it took to ship Model 3’s to Europe and China. Despite the quarter falling below expectations, the company is still targeting to deliver 360,000 – 400,000 vehicles for the full year 2019."   Jalopnik adds: "On an earnings call in January, Musk warned that about 10,000 cars could be stuck in transit at the end of the quarter and since then things appear to have gone further awry. Ships were delayed due to a worker’s strike in Belgium, and China temporarily halted deliveries after incorrect labels were discovered on some cars."   https://insideevs.com/tesla-model-3-s-x-sales-q1/   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-tsla-q1-2019-production-deliveries-report/   FORD’s BIG ELECTRIC PLAN An advanced line-up of Ford electrified vehicles marks a new milestone for Ford and its customers, the company today announced at a special “Go Electric” experience in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
