A Lovely Savage - John Marcus Brown

    Chapter 1

    I’m Bout That

When the fall semester comes to a close in December, and final exams conclude, all the students prepare to head home for the holiday break. Everyone pretty much leaves town to go be with their families to enjoy some of that quality time. Nevaeh’s family lives in town so she’ll be around during the break. Miguel still thinks about her, but he understands where they stand now, so he’s focusing on moving forward and looking towards the spring semester.

However, Angie has every intention of staying in touch with Miguel over the break to stay fresh on his mind. She’s texting him every couple of days and don’t get me wrong, the conversations are good, but he knows where it’s going. She’s wanting to know what all he has planned for the break including things that he’s gonna do with his family. She’s basically letting him know that the ball in his court. After seeing how things fell through with Nevaeh, he’s pretty much down for whatever.

Nevaeh is all-in with June by now, and Angie is ready to give herself to Miguel. Since she’s been in a dead-end relationship, she decides to call it quits with her boyfriend. That nigga didn’t give a shit either because he didn’t try to work it out, talk it out, or nothing—that nigga walked. He also didn’t care because he had other girls. Now that she’s single, Angie does all she can to keep Miguel’s attention.

Once Megan made it back from staying with her friend after their altercation, she had hopes of making amends with Angie. Maybe. On the note she left, Megan told Angie that she would be staying with a friend for a few days, but she was gone longer than that. Megan gave her the decency of letting her know when she was headed back by way of text. She tried to be cordial and courteous, but Angie wasn’t going for that. Angie ignored that shit basically with, "Whatever bitch..."

When Megan made it back to their apartment, Angie was gone and still had not replied to the message. Megan was a little nervous because they haven’t seen each other since she left and she’s sure it’s gonna be awkward as hell when they face each other again. A couple of hours passed, then Angie made it home. You could imagine how Angie felt when she pulled up and saw Megan’s car. "Fuck—here we go..."

Megan was sitting in the living room with the TV on while she was reading a book. Megan reading a book? Sounds like some bullshit. When she heard the key turn, and that door opened, she was greeted with a warm death-stare from her sister. Angie walked in there with a straight stank attitude.

Angie looked at Megan like, "Bitch—why are you still breathing? Angie glared at her then she turned around to close the door and lock it. While she was doing that, Megan went to say, Hey..." Angie slowly turned around, looked at her, rolled her eyes and started walking towards her room. Megan put the book down to continue:

"Angie—can we just talk for a sec?"

"What the fuck is there to talk about?"

"Listen—I’m so sorry about what I did. I should’ve never—"

"Sorry? Lemme get this straight: You let all of this time pass and just now wanna apologize? Wow. A sorry would’ve been nice that night you decided to put ya fuckin’ hands on me!"

I know...I was out of line, and I feel like shit...

    "And I should care why?"

I just...I haven’t been able to hardly sleep. I feel fuckin’ terrible. I know you’re upset with me and you have every reason to be. I didn’t even know what to say to you after that. I just didn’t wanna make anything worse—that’s why I left. I just thought we both needed some space. I’ve just been dealing with a lot and didn’t mean to take it out on you...

    "But you did."

"I know, and that’s why I’m sorry. I don’t want you to stay mad at me—what can I do to make it up to you?"

    "Aww...you poor baby..."

    .........

"That’s so sweet of you. Do you need a hug?"

    "...Really?"

"You can take ya apology and go fuck yourself! Don’t ever do that shit again."

Megan cut her eyes at Angie and said in a low tone, "Okay, I’m tryna be nice..." Megan let Angie get a few shots in but she was starting to get irritated. Angie knew she was getting under Megan’s skin but she decided to stop before they got into a real fight this time. Angie was one slick comment away from gettin’ her ass whooped because Megan is already unstable.

Angie has still been in her feelings regarding how Megan snapped on her, but she’s been plotting a payback anyway, so it’s all good. Angie decides to squash it with Megan—somewhat. This way, they can at least be on speaking terms since they have to live together. She plans to return the favor to her beloved sister—in due time. But for now, however—Angie has dick on her mind. She has to keep her positive energy flowing for Miguel because that’s all that really matters right now. She’s basically like, "That bitch can wait. But this nigga? Shiiiiieett..."

After they put their differences aside, they ended up going back to their hometown to spend the holidays with their parents and other family members. Their parents have plans of doing some holiday traveling as well, so she and Megan saw it best to resolve their issues. There’s still some awkward tension, but Angie doesn’t hardly give a shit now. She enjoys the holidays as she anticipates the upcoming semester.

January 2018 marks the beginning of a bigger and better semester. Angie is sure to text Miguel to wish him a Happy New Year on January 1st. Classes start back in the third week of January, and Angie plans to be back in town the second week of the month. Miguel comes back in town the first weekend of the month because he has to go back to work.

Once Angie gets back in town, she makes it her business to meet with Miguel so she can start spending time with him. Get in where you fit in. With Nevaeh out of the picture, she can make her long-anticipated moves with him.

Their first outing is just a casual meet at a coffee shop. Miguel has never spoken extensively with Angie, so this is his first time doing so. When they
