About this ebook

How Bernie Won: Inside the Revolution, That's Taking Back Our Country--and Where We Go from Here by Jeff Weaver: Conversation Starters

Bernie Sanders overcame big challenges and earned the respect and admiration of many when he ran the presidential race. He won the race. He ignited a movement that inspired millions of Americans. His presidential campaign manager explains how the 2016 race showed the conflict that was happening within the Democratic Party. Sanders represented a rediscovery of the values of the Democratic Party's modern roots and an articulation of the unfinished business of the New Deal. By contrast, the neoliberals are a recent aberration. In many ways, Bernie was running for FDR's fifth term. The book makes predictions for 2020 and cites the implications involved.

How Bernie Won is written by Jeff Weaver who managed Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign. He is president of Sanders' organization called Our Revolution.

He did not want to bow down to big money the way other politicians did. Most important to him was his vow to make America the country that serves most Americans, the ordinary people. Weaver relates the challenges that they met along the way and how they overcame them. They dealt with media that wanted negative and controversial news. They faced a party that was controlled by established insiders. They managed to work within the political system that relied on big money. Sanders overcame these big challenges and earned respect and admiration of many. He won the race, Weaver argues. Sanders' campaign focused on discussions that highlighted the gap between the 1 percent wealthiest and the 99 percent struggling income earners. He reminded the Democrats of their populist origins. He showed how politics could be done with ideas and ways that matter and consequently win against popular candidates. Weaver's book is a story of how a revolution was born, including the management of campaign workers, Bernie buttons, picket signs, and future plans for 2020. The revolution did not end in 2016, according to Weaver, because it has only just
