    Chapter 1

Celeste dropped her backpack at her feet and moaned with the sweet release of the weight off her aching shoulder. How much stuff did she pack? It did not look like that much stuff when it was all laid out on her bed. They were only going to be in The Swirl Resort for a week anyway. But a girl always had to be prepared. It was just too difficult to account for every situation that might arise. Of course her husband Roy had one duffle bag worth of clothes which had taken him all of twenty minutes to put together. Men. They had it so easy, didn't they?

Wow, we are finally here, Roy said wrapping his strong arms around her. She loved his warm embrace. In almost nine years of marriage the romantic spark between them had never wavered. It really made her question why they were actually here.

But it was something they'd both agreed to. That was very clear. It wasn't anything they were rushing into half-cocked. This had been burning underneath the surface of their marriage for a long time and now it was the right time to release all of those thoughts, questions, and fears into the bright light of day. If they were ever going to move forwards with their relationship and take it to that next level of starting a family, this was what they needed to do right now.

Yes, we are. It feels good to not be traveling anymore, Celeste said.

What are you talking about? I thought you loved traveling? Roy asked.

No, I like arriving at destinations; I don't much care for the boring trip of getting there, Celeste replied with a smile which she followed up on by sticking out her tongue at him.

    Roy laughed.

    My mistake, he joked.

He sat his duffel bag on the bed and started to unpack his clothes and toiletries. She watched him as he moved about his business of unpacking. She often watched him when he was totally oblivious. It was just her way of appreciating what a wonderful man she had in her life. Sometimes it was just nice to reflect on things and to take the time to realize just how lucky they both were to have found each other, especially at such a young age.

And lately it reminded her of how lucky she was that he had not been taken from her.

It was arguably the absolute worst day of her life. And it happened just three short months ago. Celeste and Roy had just left the grocery story late on a Sunday night traveling home. Normally they did the shopping on Sunday afternoon but they had a family reunion earlier in the day and the rest of the weekend was just too busy. Both of them worked high stress demanding jobs with long hours (she was an attorney with her eyes on the goal of making partner in a very prestigious law firm and Roy was an architect in one of the biggest architectural firms in Phoenix)
