    The waves and wind that produce the storms of our lives are real. The struggle is real. In life we sometimes face issues that really challenge our discipleship and faithfulness. At such moments hope begins to wane and we live on the edge of hope.

    Options become limited and one gets stuck, overwhelmed and crying out for help without a clear answer on the way. What do you do? Do not allow your fears hold you back when you are living on the edge of hope. They will trap you. Activate whatever measure of hope and faith that is left to keep your head above the crashing waves. Faith does not necessarily save us from storms, trials, tribulations or suffering. What it does is to give us strength to face them. Faith gives us hope when despair threatens us.

    Our hope in God is not a bookmark in the Bible that is consulted once in a while. It is a way of living because hope puts its hands to work.

    How lovely on the mountain are the feet of those who bring Good News (Isaiah 52:7).These words are even more relevant in our times and in our nation: The reality of dwindling and weakening faith, 'diluted' and misinterpretation of scriptures, use of scripture and the word of God for personal aggrandizement, unbridled innovations in living out the Christian life, and so on, throw a big challenge at people's interpretation, understanding and living out of the scripture.

    These challenges notwithstanding, the word of God has to be preached. The call for all to witness with a good life has its foundation in a good interpretation of the preached word. This ought to be proclaimed in and out of season. One who is grounded in the word will naturally teach the word and even live it out. Like Romans 10:14 remarks; "how then are they to call on him if they have not come to believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard him? And how will they hear of him unless there is a preacher?"
