      Clumsy Little Man or Life is an Adventure

      Everyone who knows Little Man knows that he is clumsy. He is always bumping into walls, stepping on toys, tripping over his own feet, and knocking things on the floor. Sometimes he even slips on nothing at all and falls right down on his butt.

      One day when he was walking through the cafeteria at school, he tripped over his shoelaces and spilled an entire tray of lasagna in Principle Grumpton’s lap. Little Man said that it was an accident but that didn’t save him from having detention for a whole week.

      When he went to his friend’s house, he couldn’t reach the doorbell. He leaned over the railing to try to ring it and ended up falling off the porch into a big green bush. When his friend’s mom came to the door, she looked around but she did not see him.

      Down here! Little Man said.

      What are you doing in that bush? his friend’s mom said.

      I’m stuck, Little Man said.

      Were you trying to hide from me? his friend’s mom said.

      No, Little Man said. I rang the bell and fell in.

      So, his friend’s mom said, you like to play dingdong ditch, do you?

      No, Little Man said. I can’t get out!

      She left him there and called his parents. And when they heard that he was trying to play a dirty trick, they made him go to bed without any dessert.

      Last Christmas, Little Man wanted to be the one to put the star on top of the Christmas tree.

      I don’t think it’s a good idea, Little Man, his father said.

      I can do it, Little Man said.

      Are you sure? his father said.

      I know I can, Little Man said.

      He carefully removed the star from the box and plugged it into the outlet behind the tree. It glimmered and shined with light. Then he slowly climbed up onto the stepstool.

      Careful, Little Man, his father said.

      I’m always careful, Little Man said.

      He got to the top step and reached for the highest branch.

      It might be too high, his father said.

      Little Man stepped up on his tiptoes.

      I’m not sure you can reach it, his father said.

      Little Man extended both of his arms.

      Oh no! his father said.

      Suddenly, Little Man lost
