    1. Importance of Yoga

    Today we are living in a world in which people are facing different types of mental pressures, tensions and worries. These problems affect them physically; mentally and emotionally As a result, people are becoming victims of various diseases. At such a time, Yoga can be very beneficial for us. We can get rid of many ailments and diseases through Yoga. Due to this reason, Yoga is becoming more and more popular in western countries as well. Yoga helps us in the following ways:

    (I) Health Improvement

    Yoga improves health through different methods:

    * Yoga makes our muscles strong and joints flexible. It regulates respiration, blood circulation, excretion, and ligament and gland systems. As a result, the efficiency of these systems increases and hence health improves.

    * Various diseases and disorders can be cured with the help of Pranayama and Yogasana. The diseases that can be cured with the help of Yoga asana are bronchitis, blood pressure, cold, digestive disorder, constipation, diabetes, asthma, backache, joint pain, etc.

    * Besides, yogic exercises help in making the body posture correct. Vajarasana, Sarvangasana, Mayurasana, Chakrasana, Bhujangasana, etc., not only make the posture correct but also cure many disorders related to it.

    * Different types of Yoga asanas and pranayamas increase the flexibility of the body and decrease the amount of fat deposited in the body with the increase in flexibility, the movements of a person become skilful and graceful. Also with the decrease in fat amount practitioner avoids many types of ailments and diseases.

    (ii) Mental Development

    Yoga not only helps in physical development but also in removing mental tension and developing mental powers. It is a universally accepted the truth that body and mind are interdependent. Through Yogasana and pranayama, various types of physical disorders are cured. Also, they develop the body. Yogasana and pranayama also help in developing mental powers. Thus, through high concentration, the mind can be prevented from diverting towards unwanted desires. By avoiding such diversions many social evils can be cured.

    (iii) Emotional Development
