    Introduction

I am a native Southern Californian food blogger with a passion for cooking. I was born in Los Angeles and raised just south in Orange County, but I have spent many of my adult years in Los Angeles. One of the things that make Los Angeles so special is its diverse cultures and the ability to find almost any type of cuisine here, that’s one of the things I love about it.

Comfort Food for me is slightly different than in other parts of the country because of my lifestyle. The food that makes me feel good tends to have a healthier slant because our warm weather and I spend a lot of time outside enjoying our beaches, my backyard and the city around me. However, the foods I find most comforting do have some similar ingredients as traditional comfort food, just with my own unique twist.

Here in Los Angeles, I have access to a variety of fruits and vegetables all year long, and you see this in most of my cooking. Also, the food that comforts me most often reflects the neighborhood in which I was raised, and my heritage. Growing up, I had a large Mexican-American population in my neighborhood, and you taste this influence in my cooking, as well as recipes with a slight German-American spin from my grandparents.

I come from a family that is big into entertaining and we really don’t need a big reason to pull together an impromptu party, or gathering of friends and family. I know I inherited the entertaining bug and I have enjoyed continuing the tradition in my own home.

In this cookbook, most of my recipes are easy-to-make and can be enjoyed at home as everyday comfort food, or for parties and gatherings, large or small. I hope that you will cook along with me using my California Comfort Food Cookbook and it becomes one of your favorite tools in the kitchen. Starters

A little nibble of something delightful to tantalize your taste buds, or a plateful of fun that becomes a meal!

    Skillet Queso

Queso is one of my favorite splurges. There’s nothing I enjoy more than this cheesy warm dip with a bit of spice, oozing off of a crunchy tortilla chip. The chorizo and jalapeno, add a bit of heat without overpowering the cheesy taste.

This recipe is super easy to prepare because you layer it in a cast iron skillet and bake it in the oven. The three-cheese combination is delightfully creamy and makes it oh-so-fun for dipping at parties, or small gatherings with friends and family.
