Chapter 1
Introduction
Building A Therapy Business. A Practical Guide
As an holistic therapist of some years experience and a business owner within the industry, I felt it was time to offer some guidance to my colleagues who may not have the experience in building their own business.
While training, most therapists are taught little of the business side of the industry, but everything of the caring for others, consequently, thousands of therapists come out of training courses, ill equipped to make a living at their chosen career, leaving them vulnerable to exploitative employers who offer an insulting minimum wage for the therapist’s education and hard work.
By building up a business knowledge, the therapist is in a far stronger position to; negotiate better salary deals as well as source premises and/or build a stronger basis for a smoother journey into the rewarding world of business/practice ownership.
Being one's own boss is, after all a goal of many. With the right tools, dedication and communication skills, any of us can achieve this goal.
It is generally accepted that a career in massage therapy (or indeed other holistic therapies), is very short lived. The main reason for this is cited as the therapist having no business knowledge or experience.
This affordable guide will help the aspiring therapist to build, not only in business, but in confidence also. Having faith and confidence in yourself is an absolute necessity in practice building.
