The Golden Cage - Clean Romance - Rachel J. Moore

    Golden Cage

Today was a typical day at work for Darren. As the head librarian, he was supposed be at the library first, and leave last. However, this day was going to be a pretty peculiar day for him.

Damn that rain. It always has to pour after I wash my car, he was talking to himself while driving in the parking lot.

He was parking in front of the building in a slot reserved for the stuff members only. It was one of the many benefits of his job—but most of them were involving books. It was still far too early for any visitors, but he had many duties to attend to. If only these teens hadn't decided to rush through their homework at the very last minute, he thought. Last night, a group of lively teenagers visited the library, anxious to complete a science project.

They decided to leave near closing time, having created a mess in the science section. Books covered the stands, some of them not even close to where they were supposed to be. He was glad, however, that the kids nowadays didn't use Internet for everything. Even though they took almost a hundred selfies, he commented with a grin.

The storm was going on pretty strong with no sign of decreasing its pace. So, just before Darren opened his black umbrella outside of his car, he got really wet. He looked at his clothes with discomfort and thought only of the warm atmosphere inside the library. You've got to love this familiar warmness, he thought before starting to run with a small stack of
