Chapter 1 The Drive to Work

Detective Rage is a homicide detective and is driving to work at 6:45 am on a Monday. She has been in the homicide section for several years now. She is the best to have in a shootout. Patrolman Jones can attest to that fact. They have been in some tight spots together. No one is sure of their exact relationship and likely, neither do they?

She carries a set of twin-matched, pearl handled, silver Colt 45s. She can fire both Colts at the same time and put twelve rounds in two separate 3-inch circles at thirty yards.

Her red hair, one would never say to her face, matches her spirit.

She started in early to work to clean up some paper work on the last case and put it to bed. The weather has been acceptable, so her business has been slow. No one complains in homicide when business is slow.

It is not raining in the one city where very few people even own an umbrella, no less use it. But a few people will carry one in January; where it will rain 33-days straight. In January, even the ducks wear boots, hip boots, and rubber hats.

The weather in Seattle has a few local descriptions that will mean something only to the locals. Such as, ‘occasional sun breaks’ means you will have intermittent showers. The ‘filtered sun’ means a continual mist will be falling. Partly cloudy means less than 1/4 of an inch of rain. They never forecast rain if less than an inch a day.

The temperature except in the summer will have the nighttime temperature within a few degrees of the daytime number. The most typical temperatures in the winter are 36 and 45 degrees, take your pick for day or night.

A car about a block ahead of Rage is weaving in her lane. Traffic is a little lighter than normal, but he goes over his lane into the next one his left without a signal. Then when he hits some turtles with his left wheels, he goes right and ends up back in Rage’s lane again. He goes so far to the right his right tires start to run over the lane dividers or know as turtles to the locals. With almost no snow to clear in any year, the lanes are painted as normal. However, an added safety feature are half circles about one-inch high and two inches in diameter. They are glued in sets of three between the painted stripped lane lines. It is
