About this ebook

Autumn 1970, Manhattan, New York

“♫ Life gives you surprises but Surprises give you life, oh Lord ... ♪”

A single night can carry both contempt and horror.

The notorious Peter Blade is on the hunt ... just like many nights before. Adhering to his father’s words, “You've got to get deep into the gut, that's how you'll be able to bleed the animal. It's the only way to get him clean ...” Peter ensures that every hooker he kills is bled to pristine flawlessness.

Dancing with the phantasms of a murky past and the reality of an ominous present, Peter Blade trades places with his victims for the foreboding remembrances which cometh after dark. This night is entrenched in the unexpected and Peter finds himself contending with life and death. From dusk to dawn, Peter Blade is inescapably haunted but to what end? Which could be worse, living the terror or dying by its hands?

Y. Correa is a literary seductress, luring one in with her talent of Romancing the Words, keeping one hypnotized with dynamic characters, and stimulating one with engaging narrative voices, strong plots, and epic conflicts. Her writes are as complex and as distinct as her person; a delightful combination of eclectic and antiquated. Therefore, the mere mention of fitting into one set genre is laughable. The multi-genre decadence is where she showcases her magnificence. Y. Correa's works include: Solo Works: ~ Historical Fiction "MarcoAntonio & Amaryllis" ~ Sci-Fi Mashup "Earth 8-8-2: The Genesis Project" and "Earth 8-8-2: Genesis' Rebellion" ~ Paranormal Romantic Drama "Lilith's Dominion" ~ Short Story Anthology coined after her catchphrase, "Dimensions of Literary Seduction" Anthology Participations: ~ "Concordant Vibrancy: Unity" ~ "Holiday Keepsakes" ~ "Crackles of the Heart: Divergent Ink Book 1" ~ "Concordant Vibrancy: Vitality" ~ "Concordant Vibrancy: Lustrate" Would you like to enter into Y. Editorial Reviews:

    Review by Author Carol Cassada:

Take a trip into the mind of a notorious serial killer in this suspenseful psychological drama. From growing up in Puerto Rico to his teen years in Miami, the story goes into gripping details on how the character’s traumatic childhood made him into a coldblooded serial killer.

Reading the book feels like you’re watching a crime show that profiles murderers, only Peter Blade is scarier. The author does a wonderful job diving into the mind of the character as he transforms from an innocent boy into a mad man who strolls the streets of New York looking for his next victim.

Each scene is significant in shaping the story, and will leave you in shock. This is one of those books where you won’t want to put it down. If you’re a fan of suspense and crime, you don’t want to miss the tale of Peter Blade.

Review by Author Queen of Spades:

A sharp yet quick read … like Peter’s handling of his victims.

I confess to expressing initial caution when approached to read Peter Blade. One of my favorite genres to read is horror and psychological drama, and it's rare for me to encounter indie authors who can match the appetite of what I'm looking for in a successful read. In addition, I am accustomed to romance mashups and science fiction from Y. Correa, so her tackling this genre took me aback. Could her signature of romancing the words be incorporated in a write that has to be dark and gory to deliver in a believable fashion?

Peter Blade is like a twist on an old staple dish: one doesn't know if she will like the modification until she takes the first bite. The ingredients of back story, psychology, and mystery meshed well while not subtracting from Y. Correa's modus operandi. Despite knowing of Peter Blade's wicked ways, I felt sympathy and garnered understanding as to his transformation. The incorporation of Catholicism placed extra spice to Peter Blade's sense of purpose. There's splashes of Sin City with a minuscule hint of Pulp Fiction as Peter comes to term with his fate. A page turner from the jump and a great read for someone who wants something different from the traditional gore or dark drama

    (The Witch City, Puerto Rico)

Rain trickled down upon the tin roof making the sound of a million tiny drums beating atop the ceiling. The song of Mother Nature drowned out the silent crying of a child as he wept alone, curled up in a fetal position. He faced the wall. The child’s cloth and hay bed were wet from several ordinary and unusual body fluids.

The wind whipped and trounced outdoors, causing ghostly sounds to permeate the walls of the poorly shack. Fausto wished it would just sweep him away too.

Take me with you. he prayed and yearned. I want to fly away.

Surrounding the house—through the cracks in the wall—Fausto could smell the wetness of the tropical storm brewing, the watered-down blood of slain pigs, and of course, the greenery of a beautiful island. Just behind his home Fausto’s father had constructed a slaughterhouse. This was the family’s only means of income. A relentless workaholic Fausto’s father travailed day and night and in so doing unfortunately ignored his family altogether.

Indoors however, Fausto could make out the potent smell of Bacardi, regurgitation, garbage and sex.

How should a boy of such a tender age recognize the aroma of coition? What a twisted existence ...!

The problem with shacks was that they were one miniscule communal space. A box shared by many and serving all functions; bedroom, kitchen and living room. No privacy and certainly no separation.

Turning to look in the other direction Fausto tucked his little hands under his cheek and stared directly at her. His tormentor.

Papo, you little bastard! Shut the fuck up and go to sleep! a slurred inebriated voice yelled. I’m tired of your shit! The mumbling continued but none of it was cohesive or kind.

Unexpectedly Fausto’s little stomach grumbled. Had he not eaten? He could not recall but it did not matter either.

One day this will all stop. he convinced himself. From his horizontal position on the bed the tears streamed down his face vertically, landing on the back of his hand.

One spilling droplet in particular—when looked at from up close—served as a mirror which reflected his surroundings like mother pearl.

Exhaustion abounded. The sweet child yawned deeply. Lamentations caused the abject sigh to come out in pants. Fausto wiped his eyes then rubbed them. Pulling a thin sheet over himself Fausto stretched, inhaled sharply and inevitably drifted to sleep.

As he floated to the place where consciousness and deep slumber meet Fausto heard his father in the distance slaying a pig. The squeal echoed in Fausto’s psyche and just like that he was taken by the Sandman …
