About this ebook

In 1999 GBHEM published the first book about CR-CC appointments, Witness from the Middle: Korean-American Pastors in Non-Korean Local Churches in The United Meth- odist Church. This was the first publication describing the experiences of racial-ethnic clergy who had been serving in CR-CC ministry in the denomination.
In my research, I point to two elements that have been missing denominationally but that are crucial to a successful CR-CC ministry: (1) a definition of CR-CC appointment and (2) a pretraining both for clergy and congregations when- ever CR-CC appointments are made.6 GBHEM initiated leg- islation in 2008, and The UMC came up with the definition of a CR-CC appointment in The Book of Discipline and required a pretraining for clergy and congregations.
