About this ebook
Arizzo is an inventor of clever toys and machines that delight and amuse the people of Arezzo. His greatest invention The Anything Machine brings with it much annoyance that threatens to destroy the peace and tranquility of the town. Ever resourceful, Arizzo uses the very machine that caused the calamity to restore order and happiness to the lives of his fellow Arezzonians.
Arizzo of Arezzo is a story for the young and the young at heart. It’s a silly romp through an imaginary world with outcomes and consequences not unlike those found in our own.

A Little Foreword
Arizzo of Arezzo and The Anything Machine
A Glossary of Sorts
A Little Foreword
This little story was inspired by a visit to Arezzo, Italy in 2003. I can’t remember when I started to write it, but my guess is no more than a year later. But like so many things I didn’t stick with it and put it aside for long stretches just as Arizzo is obliged to set aside his inventions. I hope my sketches convey some of the silliness and the happiness that the story is about.
I have added some footnotes to explain some of the language used. These are intended for the adult reader. A younger reader can skip them as she or he wishes. I hasten to add that I do not speak Italian. If there are errors in the notes, please feel free to email me at ralphlake@gmail.com

Arizzo of Arezzo and The Anything Machine
The Duomo of Arezzo
Not so long ago, in a town, high on a hill, there was a very old man. The town was called Arezzo[1], the old man Arizzo and the hill—well, I forget that and must apologize. Forgive me. I’m old too and my memory is not what it once was.
Arizzo of Arezzo, though very old, had a very young heart and spent his days with crazy ideas about machines that could talk and little puppets that could
