The room was filled with record executives, news reporters and the crème de la crème of the entertainment world.
Johnny nervously walked on stage and took a seat on the piano bench, behind a shiny, black, oversized grand piano.
He placed his hands above the keyboard and the room became as still as a frozen night in the tundra.
Kenneth looked out at the crowd, as his fiancée, beamed a supportive smile.
He smiled back at her and a photographer quickly flashed a picture of the highly regarded musical genius.
Those seated close to the stage commentated to the photographer, feeling the maestro with such a sterling reputation for composing intricate, wonderful musical masterpieces might have been distracted but, Johnny was nonplussed and quickly refocused on the keyboard in front of him.
He raised his right hand and the audience was transfixed on hearing his latest composition.
He dropped his hand down on the keyboard and played one note.
The second, natural note played above middle C.
He played the D
note or Rey
from the vocal exercise device; Do-Rey-Me-Fa-So-La-Te-Do!"
The musical note, Rey
ran throughout the hall and echoed across the recording devices prepared to archive this historic event.
Moment’s passed and no one moved or spoke.
Kenneth rose up from the piano and walked off the stage.
The audience wondered about the length of the composition and murmured if there was more?
Kenneth did not return to the stage.
Was he finished for the night?
The house lights began to increase in brightness and the stage was empty.
Was that all?
Is there any more?
One of the greatest composers in modern time had only played one note.
One note, which echoed throughout the assembly hall, transfixed an awestruck crowd.
They shook their heads in astonishment.
An announcer came over the public address system and said the concert had concluded and wished each participant a safe drive home.
The announcement was followed by some who were vocally upset but, the concert was over.
Months passed and a curious public attempted to discern the meaning of a single note.
The second tone above middle C.
