About this ebook
Jake Lloyd Jones
Jake Lloyd Jones is a singer-songwriter, blogger and accidental poet. This is his first published volume of essentially, prosaic free-verse, but hopefully not his last. He has been writing prose and poems since he was fourteen years of age. Born in New-Zealand, he spent the first 35 years of his life there before emigrating to Australia, where some of his lineage is from. He currently resides on the Northside of Brisbane in Queensland, by the sea. He has three adult sons and a teenage daughter, residing in proximity. His first solo CD 'Just Like That!' recorded and produced at the end of 2007, won local Government funding for recording. It was subsequently picked up by a publisher and distributor in Canberra and won an ARIA nomination in the Blues and Roots category for best album and has had worldwide exposure via radio and online representation. He has also had some recognition for a short poem for its literary style and creativity in 2008 (The only work he has ever submitted to a contest) with an Editors Choice Award; All Her Windows (The poem is included in this volume of work) He was invited to recite some of his work at an International Poets Convention in LA, after the accolade.

Prose...And Sometimes, Poetry - Jake Lloyd Jones
BE THANKFUL
Be thankful that I only play with words
If I didn’t, I’d probably play with guns
LIFE BY NUMBERS
He tried to take her to places she hadn’t been
he knew she’d seen the rest
so now, to the mystical
to the philosophical…
but she never really climbed on board
she kept one foot on the floor and one hand on the table
and just as they were crossing the beautiful bridge
in the zone, and flying…
she slipped and fell between the cracks
of abstracts and intangibles
Where else was she to fall, but back to her own world?
back to five senses and solids
back to her friends and colleagues
who measure all of life by numbers
BELONGINGS
Behind her cottage, and in a linen dress
she is collecting vegetables from her garden
the air is spiced with hay and fenugreek
Her hair is tied back, practically and
her hands are busy
The mountain behind her; a quiet and constant companion
she is singing to it as though it had a
