Kidz 2 Cherish

About this ebook
Readers are first introduced to the oldest of the three, a fifth-grader, when a dilemma at his school demonstrates why, exactly, he is known around the town as a Mister Fixit.
Then along comes Nellie, a third-grader, who has a twinkle in her eye and a fixation on animals stuffed or real, it doesnt matter and is particularly keen on all things ladybug.
The youngest, Picadillo, is a carefree little lad who never fails to entertain and surprise. An infatuation with videos, movies and role-playing make him a unique piece of work.
One of the missions Andrew Collins undertook in Kidz 2 Cherish was to develop compelling characters who exemplify the how-tos of growing up purposefully. Some of the events happening to and among the lead characters require fictional imagination, while other situations are pictured as being real and in the moment (though at times wacky). The idea was to depict kids having fun being kids with a theme of desirable traits woven into their decision-making and behavior.
A chapter book, its 165 pages make for wholesome, inspiring and often humorous entertainment. As reviewed by the dependable critic JWC, ESQ: Lots of fun for the young reader but also lots of morality and character-building lessons.
Amusingly illustrated by fourteen-year-old artist Andie Carver.

About the Author
And a little child will lead them.
Isaiah 11:6
Chapter One
Only one kid in the whole classroom was not paying attention to the teacher. That person, a shiny-faced boy, one of 24 fifth graders, was gazing out a nearby window instead of being involved in the lesson.
Such behavior would be seen as far from typical for this particular youngster, a model of good citizenship.
So, what is going on?
Well, outside the building, what normally would be expected as bright daylight was just the opposite. The entire sky was turning dim and gray. The streetlights had even come on. And it was only middle of the day, shortly after students had returned from… ah, well, some would call Spam-n-Noodles lunch.
The teacher, Mrs. West, was talking about whales. She was explaining how whales differ from fish in that their tail fins are arranged side-to-side and not
Edward1200dpi.jpegup-and-down as seen in usual fish pictures and works of art.
The question Mrs. West was exploring, was, might one or the other of the fin arrangements contribute to better swimming ability?
All the while, however, the shiny-faced boy remains distracted. The darkening weather conditions – plus strange noises coming from outside the building – are commanding his attention.
But wait. Everyone at this point will benefit from knowing a few other things about this boy. And one really BIG thing, is, he is a wonderfully bright student. Meaning he already knows almost everything about whales. Truth be known, he could, if called upon, do a decent job of leading today’s lesson.
And for sure he will be turning in to Mrs. West a timely report expressing his opinions about fins.
But at the moment he remains zeroed in on what is happening outside. Is it a situation that might require looking into? Might he need to be the person getting involved?
If so it wouldn’t be a first for this boy of mention, a free-spirited little somebody who seems to be drawn to problem situations – and then goes about resolving them – a regular Mister Fixit
if you will.
And, continuing, it would be good for everyone to have knowledge of one more important thing – yep, quite the item this boy. And that thing, is, people in the town know him by two names.
The first of the names is of the regular sort, namely (ha-ha) Edward, the usual kind of handle many of us have and by which the world refers to us.
And consider this nugget: Right here we need to give "The Importance of a Good Name" its proper due. Why? Because every other kid who has been given one of the great, traditional names like, for example, an Allison, or a John, or an Andrew, or a Mary Katherine, or an Abby, or an Adlai or (your great name here), will, when talking with parents about names, be quick to shout out, Hey, Mom and Dad! You rock!
That said, we move along to Edward’s other name – a nickname. And it is a perfectly fitting nickname because it has already made our main fellow, this neat guy we’re getting to know, a local celebrity. And someday? Oh, wow! People everywhere might feel an urge to go online and Google him.
Origin of the nickname?
That happening is, in and of itself, pretty special. And uplifting. As we are about to see.
Hobo1200dpi.jpegIt was after locals read a story in the hometown newspaper, front page no less, detailing an incident in which a man was in jeopardy of losing his life.
The man, the paper had reported, definitely could have kicked the bucket that day.
This person of note – the article described him as a homeless hobo – is living and breathing somewhere today only because Edward, in the nickest of time, came to the rescue.
You see, the man had fallen asleep on the railroad tracks, and wouldn’t you know… well, it shouldn’t be the hugest of surprises to learn that, yes indeed, a you-know-what was bearing down.
The paper went
