Marie Gordon

As a child Marie Gordon could only dream about horses because her parents were far too poor to ever own them. For hours she would draw imaginary farms in the dirt, visualizing stables, yards and fields filled with lots of horses. Deep in her heart she yearned to one day have her own horse. In her late twenties she encountered Jesus Christ who healed her deepest wounds and set her on a new path of understanding. Today the Gordon Family share their farm and horses with many young people who have suffered trauma and need hope and encouragement too.

    DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to my husband John who supported me through all the hard times that we endured together for this vision. May the Lord bless him for his hard work and beautiful heart.

    RUSTY

Rusty was a fat, cheeky Corgi cross, who looked like a little ginger fox. I found her one day when I was walking my old huntaway, Tosca, through a park in town. She was wandering about, with no identification or owner to be seen. The little dog was less than a year old when she came up to me wiggling her tail frantically, her body curving into a half-moon shape, as she tried to win my attention with her ecstatic movements, first on one side and then the other. If dogs could purr, she would surely have been purring very loudly. Instead, she had to make do with licking her lips and smiling, which is doggy talk for I really like you. Please like me too. It was love at first sight for me.

She was clearly begging to be patted, which I gladly did, then she proceeded to play with Tosca, who loved everybody she met. The little dog enjoyed our company but we needed to get going home. As we walked away she started following us, which was rather a worry so I looked all about, but there was no-one to ask and very obviously nobody looking for her. So, concerned about her safety, I felt it wise to take her home with me.

On arriving home our new ginger friend soon made herself comfortable in our home. Over the coming days and weeks my husband John grew to like our furry friend too and even gave her the name Rusty, but he kept warning me, You can’t keep her as I don’t want two dogs, Marie. One is quite enough to feed and look after!

John saying that always made me sad, as I was really falling deeply in love with my ginger friend who we took everywhere with us. In the past I had only had big dogs, so it was quite a novelty to have a little pooch, so much more cute and cuddly.

In six weeks I had phoned all the pet lines I knew of and nobody came to claim her. Many people had said to me that they would love to have her, especially my chef friend from work, who had two young daughters, but I couldn’t bear the thought of losing her, so I gave every reason I could think of, to John, to convince him we should keep her.
