Preface
Everyone has been told to not wear heels over 2 or 2 1/4 inches by podiatrists or foot doctors. Yet, people still wear them. High heels are believed to have been invented in Europe over 300 years ago. So, it is also mystifying that after all of that time, there is almost nothing written about wearing high heels.
Extensive searches were made on Amazon.com, public libraries, research libraries, and elsewhere for printed matter. There are hundreds of books about shoes and high heels, but only in regards to shoe history, fashion, style, and fictional stories. There is nothing on wearing high heels, other than some tidbits in some men’s pornographic magazines that most girls and women could never get hold of.
It was even more surprising and disturbing not to find any book by an authoritative source on this topic. The topic is like taboo. So, it seemed that if we did not write one, then no one else would.
A big effort was made and this is the result. The contents of this book is based on the knowledge, opinion and thoughts of Marcia, a devoted high heel wearer who has worn high heels for over 100,000 hours. She also underwent training to walk well in 6" super high heels, so she had valuable experience to base her thoughts on. However, she is just a lay person. We truly hope that her input here lays the foundation for better and more authoritative books from others to follow.
Introduction
The aim of this book is to report on the subject of wearing high heels, as well as alert girls and women to all of the issues and potential problems associated with wearing high heels. Many of the problems are very serious and can leave a person crippled for life. So, Marcia agreed to be unbiased about high heels and reveal both the pro’s and con’s, high’s and low’s, and so on.
Unfortunately, none of her information could verified. Initial research to validate all of information indicated that the effort would be futile and unsuccessful, as it would take a team of doctors and podiatrists many years to scientifically do so. Hence, the disclaimer had to be made (after the Table of Contents and at the start of each chapter) and it should heeded, followed, and adhered to strictly by all.
Most people are well aware that it is not good to wear high heels and that it is discouraged by the medical community. However, shoe designers continue to design them, manufacturers continue to make them, shoe businesses continue to sell them, and people continue to buy and wear them. We also see models wear high heels in fashion shows, magazines, and advertising all over the place everyday. Then, as always, people follow these trendsetters and others try to be like the Jones’s. So, people still continue to wear high heels and probably, will as long as mankind survives.
With all of this in mind, it is quite appropriate for us to ask and challenge the medical community to develop some authoritative advice, guidelines, or a plan that would actually help those who still choose to wear high heels (especially, devoted high heel wearers who wear high heels most of the time). Furthermore, it should explain how best to do so in all aspects of wearing high heels.
________________________________________________________________________
We do not encourage or recommend wearing high heels to anyone. High heels can take a toll on the health of those who wear them, especially in regards to the feet, ankles, knees, hips, and lower back problems. It is also easier to trip or slip and injure oneself, while wearing high heels. However, if one disregards all of these warnings and still chooses to wear high heels, then she should first find as much information as she can about the potential problems and dangers associated with wearing high heels, how best to avoid or deal with such problems, and discuss all of it with her physician and podiatrist.
________________________________________________________________________
High heels are still fashionable and serve purposes in addition to those of normal shoes. High heels make every pair of legs (except legs that are ultra-skinny) look prettier and sexier. Moreover, the higher the heel, the sexier the look. High heels are arguably the most sexy item of clothing that a girl can wear.
In general, high heels make a statement that the girl wearing them has sexy thoughts. High heels make her walking gait sexier, make her buttock stick out more and arch her back more for a sexier look to the entire body. High heels also make the girl appear taller, an added benefit when the one she loves is taller.
While they are bad shoes to wear, high heels are not the worst shoes that one can wear. Ballet pointe shoes are by far the worst shoes ever invented and designed. Ballet dancing on pointe can also cause problems to the feet, ankles, knees, hips, and back over time. Not surprisingly, ballet pointe shoes in the toe position are ultra-pretty and ultra-sexy looking.
Furthermore, high heels are far less cruel than bound feet. Permanent foot binding of very young girls was a common practice in China between 950-1912 A.D., until it was outlawed. Their feet were wrapped very tightly with cloth so that they could not grow anymore. So, these girls grew up to be women with tiny 3 to 5 inch long feet.
Bound feet served the same purposes that high heels and ballet on pointe shoes do. These tiny little feet mimicked the ball of the foot in high heels (or
