About this ebook

THE WISDOM OF GOD'S ATTITUDE CONFOUNDS THE WISDOM OF HUMANKINDS ATTITUDE!
How can we describe an abstract term like the word attitude and prescribe it in such a concrete way? The Word of God is the avenue to achieve this objective!
The author explains how attitude is more than just positive or negative, but rather situational instead. Various attitude principles are discussed with stories of the bible in reference to each type of attitude being addressed.
In Godly Attitude Worldly Latitude, R. A. Day, Sr., expounds upon earthly definitions of attitude with heavenly inspirations that show how Christians should be imitators of their Lord and Savior.
This book is a far different read than the standard social psychological or business model interpretations of what an attitude should be in life. It cries out the mantra of not looking upon our own things, but upon the things of others; and letting this mind (or attitude) be in us which is in Christ Jesus.
A broadened horizon of the attitudes of longitude, latitude, altitude, and many more attitudes will be achieved victoriously through the living out of these newfound principles. This is made possible through all the interpersonal relationship challenges and storms that life tends to throw our way.

    I give honor to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

    The Head of the Church and the Head of my life

    Thanks go to all those who have purposely given me strife

    For you have helped to develop me positively as a person

    And, my apologies go out to all whom I have offended in life

    Hopefully, you forgive me as I have forgiven many, and maybe

    you have grown in attitude adjustment, as I do each day

    To all those who encourage me to write, thank you;

    You have helped to make me more accountable to one of my gifts

    In Dedication To:

    My late mother, Arlean Day Kitchens

    For she was the first example I saw in demonstration of

    having a great attitude through some tough times in life

    And to her four contemporaries

    My aunts whom I refer to as the church ladies:

    Mom’s twin - Aunt Everlean, like a short, tough, sassy, second mom;

    Aunt Betty, tall, model-built, fashion lady who wanted to adopt me;

    Aunt Paula, a reserved, educated, pioneer woman with a great smile;

    Aunt Winnie, low-key, family event planner, and shares my birthday;

    I love you all!

    Foreword

    Back in 2008, there were two instances, which prompted the author’s thinking and writing about the attitudes of people.

    First, there was an unbelievably disappointing story featured on the cable network news program CNN.¹ The news that evening, provided the necessary fuel on the fire for both anger and intrigue within the author’s mind in reference to our attitudes today as a society.

    The secondary event happened while listening to a well-known Christian-based radio program, called The Yolanda Adams Morning Show.² This instance was surprising, but much more pleasant than the previously mentioned event on CNN.¹ As a listener, the author was held captive in curiosity and attentive to the unexpected answers of the radio-land audience; in response to the prank-call promptings by employees at the morning radio station.

    After some brief, soul-searching moments about the author’s own attitude reflections; God immediately filled his spiritual cup to overflow status and provided the necessary inspiration to preach a sermon on the topic of attitude. As a matter of fact, this very book derived its name from his own sermon entitled, "A Godly Attitude Determines Your Worldly Latitude." As a result of years of expounding upon his original talk, this writing was birthed. It shows a myriad of internal attitudinal factors, which were born out of various thoughts and feelings on the subject of attitude. In its fundamental core, it is the author’s attitude about attitudes. These are the attitudes we could positively ponder in our spiritual-selves or negatively suppress in our carnal-selves. In doing so, we should heed to the model and idea of this book. In retrospect, we respond by revealing our behavior outwardly, according to our inward beliefs. Daily, certain reactions result from the various situational circumstances in our lives; which we allow to affect us subtly, moderately, or extensively due to our level of attitude maturity.

    In an effort to write this book back in 2008, the author didn’t feel the required material was properly compiled by his publisher’s deadline. Nor, did he think there were enough biblical stories loaded into his quiver to complete this venture of tackling the subject of attitude from a Christian perspective. So, an easier penned, yet different and catchy-titled religious book both for Christendom and the world was written in its stead. It was published back in 2009 and is entitled, "Poetry Devotion for Attitude Promotion."³

    In the same manner as his first book, the author will expound on the same catch-phrase table of contents; but still doesn’t intend for this writing to erase any sound biblical doctrine. Additionally, he asks readers to act as a latitudinarian; and simply develop a broad latitude about the subject of attitude. Here’s the two-part premise of this book: First, to show how to exercise a Godly attitude by awareness and acknowledgment of our current natural-worldly attitudes. And secondly, to show application and adaptation of God’s Spiritual attitude; to combat our secular situations and circumstances in life. This is the mindset of Christ; for us to have a Spiritual-worldly latitude.

    PRELUDE

    The CNN¹ story alluded to in the preface of this book was about an elderly gentleman who fell onto the crosswalk area into the middle of the street of a northeast, New England city. People continued crossing the street while looking down in shock and amazement at the man. Some even had the audacity to drive their cars around the helpless senior citizen who apparently needed some assistance. This walking and driving pass the man occurred frequently until someone finally had the compassion that was lacking for this fellow human being. It took just one person to interrupt her busy day to cause others to catch-on and assist in providing some desperately required help and care for this person in need.

    Of course, this is not the first time people have walked around a man lying on the ground. The bible gives an account of a similar story called "The Parable of the Good Samaritan." In my King James Version of the Life Application Study Bible by Tyndale publishers,⁴ the attitude of all of the characters in "The Good Samaritan" story is discussed in the tenth chapter of The Book of Luke.⁴ The bible commentary makes the following distinctions:

    The attitude of the expert in religious law (lawyer) was that the wounded man was a subject to discuss. The attitude of the thieves was that the wounded man was someone to use and exploit. The attitude of the religious men (priest & Levite) were that the wounded man was a problem to be avoided. The attitude of the innkeeper was that the wounded man was a customer to serve for a fee. The attitude of the Samaritan was that the wounded man was a human being worth being cared for and loved. And, the attitude of Jesus is that all of them and all of us were worth dying for.

    In this story, we could make a fair assumption that many Christians have the same attitudes as the lawyer or the religious men. Like them, we want to discuss problems or avoid them altogether. Sometimes, we will even mask our reactions and solutions to issues by including them in our weekly prayer group meetings. This gives us the feeling of doing something about the problem. Yet, we missed the chance to physically do or say something at the time of opportunity. We often need to learn again the command of "loving thy neighbor as thyself." Obedience to this command reinforces our relationships and interactions with people and covers a multitude of attitude principles discussed in this book
