INTRODUCTION TO ADVANCED EXCEL FUNCTIONS
What is the difference between Basic or Moderate Excel Users and Advanced Excel Users
There are a number of differences between the basic or moderate Excel user and advanced level Excel users. Excel is a massive program that has its own programming language and is very good for all sorts of applications from accounting, to marketing, to data science, and the list just goes on. Pretty much, if it includes numbers you can do something with it inside of Excel. The difference between the basic or moderate user and the advanced Excel user is that the advanced user is capable of exploiting the full potential of the Excel program.
Advanced Formulas
One of the quintessential steps to being an advanced user of Excel is learning the different Advanced formulas that Excel has. For instance, almost everyone utilizes the SUMIF at some point in their usage of extended Excel, but very rarely will they need to touch on SUMIFS. Unlike the original, this one takes as many if statements as you can possibly give it which makes it very versatile whenever you're trying to crunch down giant numbers. There are also array-formulas, formula auditing, and circular references. We will go over some of the more advanced formulas inside of this book.
Tables, Charts, and Formatting
Another one of the more advanced aspects of Excel is the level of ability that you have with the tables, formatting, and charting inside of the program. There are a massive number of tools available for these three different categories. There is a section specifically built around showing you how to use almost all of the charts that Excel has available to you. Even more mind-blowing is the fact that you can create charts within charts. Being able to use the various charts improves your ability to explain vast quantities of data. Not everyone will need to use this but if you are trying to explain a very key component of the industry you are working in and you have to track its location in the overall picture then you're going to need something like this. An example of this is if you look at your workspace and the different departments, and then you drill down into the sections within each department, and then the sub-section of those sections. In a regular graphing program, it's difficult to even just get a graph to be related to another graph, Excel can give you graphs within graphs within graphs.
Conditional Formatting
If you have ever tried to manually find the employee that seems to be the least productive member of the staff, or you have been trying to find the elements in a work station that seem to be causing the most problems, then you have obviously been missing out on conditional formatting. Conditional formatting allows you to set conditional rules that will highlight the specific type of element you are looking for so that even if you have line upon line upon line of data, you can still easily search for the item you're looking for. Conditional formatting is not very well known and is one of the more advanced features of Excel because it requires a lot of know-how on how to do it and there are not many resources in order to learn it.
