Introduction
Okay, so you say you are planning a vacation. Have you decided where you want to go and how many days you will be gone for? What is the best way to get there and what is the least expensive way for you to reach your destination? Where do you plan to stay, do you have an itinerary and, finally, how many people will be with you and are they friends or family members?
What about your budget for this trip and have you put a little aside for any unexpected emergencies that might come up?
Please keep in mind that any trip that you can take during the low season will save you a lot of money and if possible try to be flexible with your dates and point of destination.
Chapter One
Purchasing Airline Tickets
Airlines have become very expensive for the following reason: fuel, consolidation of different companies and cutbacks in number of flights available. You can use your computer to always compare flights that are available from companies such as Priceline, Expedia, Hotwire, and Orbitz or you can go to sites such as Kayak, where they will compare different flights and prices.
Regional, no frills airlines such as Southwest will be cheaper, but you must go on to the web site, or if you happen to be in Europe, than try Easy Jet or Ryan Air, which are very inexpensive. In many cases, these airlines will be less expensive than the train or even the bus, but you need to be on the lookout for weekly and even daily specials, which are being posted all the time. Are you flexible in your dates or airports and in more than one stop?
Do you have any special request, such as a vegetarian meal or an aisle seat? Please note that some airlines will charge extra for an aisle seat and the request should be made in advance, if you make the request at the airport and if the plane is full, there might not be an aisle seat available.
Luggage is restricted to one free suitcase weighing no more than 23 kilos and one carry-on bag. Any luggage exceeding the 23 kilos weight limit can cost you as much as $115 more,
