Grace Now Devotional - Rotimi Oluwaseyitan

    DAY 1

WHY ARE WE SITTING HERE UNTILL WE DIE

2 Kings 7:3-4. Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, Why are we sitting here until we die? If we say, ‘We will enter the city,’ the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. And if we sit here, we die also. Now therefore, come, let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they keep us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall only die." (NKJV)

    DEVOTIONAL REFLECTION:

The decision we make every day will eventually culminate into the destiny we will fulfill. Whether we like it or not every decision we make is leading us somewhere. Right decision is the first step to right destination. You are just one decision away from a life you have always dreamt of. A change of location can radically change your perspective in life. A change in spiritual commitment can open you up to a completely different level of intimacy and dominion in the spirit. What do you need to stop doing or start doing? What tough decision do you need to make? What are you waiting for?

The lepers in our text were in a critical stage, and they need to make a decision. God has placed the destiny of their city at the mercy of their decision. Whatever decision they take today, will determine the fate of the city and change their own status. They just needed to get up and do something. While they were waiting for God to do something God was waiting for them to do something. Many times believers want God to do everything for them, but we need to understand that destiny is fulfilled by the combination of inputs: God’s input and ours’. When destiny fails, you can be sure it is because man fails to play his role. When they finally took the step to go in the direction of the camp of the enemy, to their surprise the camp was empty, because God has used their decision to create confusion in the camp of the enemy. The step you are afraid to take may be the step to your major breakthrough in life. Get up and make that change!

    APPLICATION:

Don’t leave till tomorrow what you can do today. Do the right thing.

    PRAYER FOCUS:

Oh Lord, interrupt my comfort and stir up my nest when I need to fly in Jesus’ name.

Holy Spirit, I submit myself to You, drive me into my destiny, influence my decision and lead me aright in Jesus’ name.

    DAY 2

    WHO HAS DESPISED THE DAY

    OF SMALL THING

Zacharias 4:10. For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the LORD, Which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth." (NKJV)

    DEVOTIONAL REFLECTION:

There are two things that God is not afraid to do: God is not afraid to start small, and He is not afraid to start again. God started with one man, and today we have over six billion people on the face of the earth. The story of creation in the book of Genesis was actually an account of recreation, God started all over again. There is miracle in a small beginning, if we know how to release it. Greatness in the kingdom does not happen by doing great things, it comes by consistently and constantly applying diligence to small things, that others ignored. Don’t be afraid to start small, and don’t be afraid to start again.

Notice the question that God asked in our text: for who has despised the day of small things? . . . Anything you don’t appreciate will always depreciate in your life. Appreciation releases the greatness in a small thing or small beginning. Appreciation releases the strategy for increase. The Bible says let the people praise thee oh Lord, and the earth will yield her increase. If you don’t appreciate your small beginning or your small things you will not appreciate God who has given it to you. Until you begin to appreciate the Lord for whatever He has given you, don’t expect any increase.

    APPLICATION:

Start where you are with what you have.

    PRAYER FOCUS:

Oh Lord thank you for where I am today, and thank you for where you are taking me to. Father I thank you for the opportunity to start afresh.

    DAY 3

    UNTIL THE SPIRIT IS

    POURED UPON US

Isaiah 32:15 Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is counted as a forest. (NKJV)

    DEVOTIONAL REFLECTION:

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of transformation. It transforms anything and anyone He touches. The Holy Spirit is also the Spirit of fruitfulness. Wherever you find the Holy Spirit you always witness fruitfulness, prosperity, abundance, and transformation. Nothing is ever barren or useless, where He reigns.

Our text today reveals that when the Spirit is poured upon us, it will not only affect us, but it has the potential to affect our communities. Anytime the Lord desires to transform a community, city or nation, He releases His Spirit upon men. It takes a man that has been transformed by the Holy Spirit to transform a nation. There is no barren land for a man that has received the touch of the Holy Spirit. Wherever he goes he prospers, wherever he turns there is result. When he steps into a wilderness, it is transformed into a fruitful land, when he steps into a fruitful field, it becomes a forest. That was the testimony of Joseph in the land of Egypt; in Potiphar’s house, everything committed into his hand prospered; in Pharaoh’s palace they acknowledged that the Spirit of God was with him. One man transformed by the Holy Spirit administered the nation for fourteen years—seven years of abundance and seven years of famine, and in spite of the seven years of famine, there was enough provision to last everybody. If God can transform you, He can transform your community, city, nation and your world.

    APPLICATION:

The Holy Spirit needs a yielded vessel. Yield yourself to Him and let Him use you for your generation.

    PRAYER FOCUS:

Holy Spirit I submit myself to you break me and mould me and use me in Jesus’ name.

    DAY 4

    THE SPIRIT OF YOUR FATHER

Mt 10:20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you (NKJV)

    DEVOTIONAL REFLECTION:

Our Lord Jesus Christ was here preparing the mind of the disciples about what they are going to encounter as a result of their faith in God. He told them they will be brought before governors and kings for His sake, as a testimony to them and to the nations. He encouraged them not to worry when they are delivered up; He encouraged them not to worry about how or what they are going to say, because it will be given them at that hour by the Holy Spirit.

In our text today, Jesus Christ called the Holy Spirit the Spirit of your Father, and that is who He is. The Holy Spirit does not keep quiet when a believer finds himself in an embarrassing situation especially when it has to do with your faith in Christ Jesus. He inspires you with the supernatural wisdom of God that your enemy or your opponent cannot handle. It was recorded of Stephen that the Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and those from Cilicia and Asia were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke, when disputing with him. It is so wonderful having with you the Spirit of your Father God; you cannot be speechless before your enemy. It also means sitting before panel of interviewers you cannot be intimidated because the Spirit of your Father is right with you and He gives you the right answer for every question.

    APPLICATION:

In your prayer time call Him what Jesus Christ calls Him.

Practice listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit even when you are in any conversation.

    PRAYER FOCUS:

Father I thank you for the Holy Spirit and His ministry in my life.

Oh, Lord I pray let the Holy Spirit lift up a standard against every flood of wickedness in my life.

    DAY 5

    BUT YOU EXCEL THEM ALL

Pr 31:29. Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all. (NKJV)

    DEVOTIONAL REFLLECTION:

Our text today is about the testimony of a virtuous woman and the joy that her husband expressed about the excellence of his wife. The Church is the bride of Jesus, and we can expect the same expression from Him if the church excels. Excellence is the will of God for you. Whatever you are doing, wherever you go, God wants you to be the head and not the tail, to be above and not beneath. Mediocrity does not glorify God; failure does not honour Him, because it does not reflect His nature. Your success will always create an opportunity to point others to God. When they ask you what is your secret? You can proudly answer, it is the Lord, and He is ready to do it for all His children.

What lesson can we learn from the virtuous woman today? Many daughters were satisfied with ‘well done’, but the virtuous woman was not. The journey to excellence begins with personal dissatisfaction with the present standard or status. It is a personal determination to go beyond the generally accepted mark. No matter how well it has been done, there is always an excellent point that can be reached, don’t settle for mediocrity. You have what it takes to excel, you have the Spirit of God. It was said of Daniel that he distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. An excellent Spirit is in you; don’t settle for less, aim for excellence.

    APPLICATION:

Look at what you are doing now, and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you how to do it better.

    PRAYER FOCUS:

Holy Spirit I acknowledge you as an Excellent Spirit, manifest Yourself through the work of my hand and every project that I have at hand in Jesus’ name.
