Foreword
I ’ve spent enough time in coffee shops huddled around cups of dark roast at corner tables and wading into conversations about real-life issues like how to be a better coworker, a constant friend, a loving husband and father, and a faith-filled follower of Christ to know that all of this truly is, as singer/songwriter Jack Johnson reminds us in his song of the same title, better together.
Scott Rannells invites us with the expectation that the journey of faith throughout life is better together. Scott is a coffee drinker, a dad, a friend, and a person of faith seeking to understand the many roles he has and how his life of following Christ impacts those roles. And he’s also your companion at the table today with his fresh, insightful, and honest book, Confessions of a Christian.
After reading Scott’s book, I am struck by three things. First, his honesty. As a single father of four, Scott deeply desires to love, parent, and live well. His wrestling with the many challenging issues that face every parent who has ever stood between a shoulder-high pile of laundry and a waiting washing machine
is honest and filled with integrity. He doubts in all the right places, arrives at understanding at just the right time, looks within himself with courage, and looks beyond himself with conviction. At the end of the day he honestly knows that God meets him right where he is, has always met him, and will continue to meet him in
