A man lives as long… . as he is remembered
Your tombstone stands among the rest; neglected and
alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
on polished, marbled stone. It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and
Beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place
You filled
Over one hundred years ago
spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and
Loved,
I wonder if you knew
that someday I would find
This spot, and come to visit you.

IN PURSUIT OF WHO I AM
In the year 2002, I came upon a reasoning to try and find out the nature of my genes. To discovery that great mystery that we all, at one time or another, ask ourselves, Who am I
?
I often wondered of whom I took after more, was it my father or my mother? I ask myself, why do I have blue eyes, why did I have dark brown hair, why at 65 years of age, do I only have slight wisps of gray hair showing, while at the same time my friends have no hair, or all gray hair, why do doctor’s tell me that I have thick skin, why am I with large shoulders and have unusual strength and a host of other thoughts about my being that seem to defy my knowledge and general understanding?
My quest for these answers came through a mature understanding of the mixing of blood, at the time of conception, and by researching scientific developments over the last twenty years or so, what I have come to realize is that our genes or genetic makeup, is passed down through inheritance, in the form of Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid DNA
, from parents to sibling, and as it does, it encodes all generic information from both parents, while it continues to maintain prior passed down genetic information from our ancestors. This in essence makes up who we are.
When we realize this, we also must realize that we have within us DNA traits, handed down, not just from or parents, but from their parents, grandparents and their ancestors before them. Our blood has become a historical library, and guiding force of our life. Blood really is thicker than water.
In perspective, it is a scientific rule that matter can not be destroyed nor created. We are all made of matter. Knowing this prompts me to believe that matter from our ancestors is alive in you and is alive in me.
I wanted to know what country they came from, when were they born, and what did they die from? What experiences did they have, what obstacles in life did they pass through?
What was happening in the world during their life time? How did they live and what did they look like, did they look like me? Do I have similar medical conditions or passed down medical conditions, that I should watch out for in me, or in my offspring?
Did my relatives have children that may have generated to where I have cousins or other unknown kin? What were their interests and occupations? Were any of them famous of infamous?
Did they fight for their country and believe in the very same things that I believe in? In what ways are we alike?
These and countless other questions have come to light during my genealogical research. I have and shall endeavor to print as many facts as possible. This work of course is not finished.
This is the reason why I will continue the thrill of discovery and the quest to understand who I am.
Their blood is in me, as your ancestors blood is in you. One must remember that only God can create matter. Matter is what we are all made of. God will not destroy that
