    PREFACE

Many people are disillusioned about where they are in their life, but don’t know how to change their reality. They focus on what their life is, and as a result, their life delivers more of the same. In this book I show people how to achieve what it is they want in life.

The first step is to know what it is you really want. Not just a dream or a wish, but what you really, really want. Until you are definite about what you want, the Universe will not deliver it to you. Being definite means you have made a decision. You have eliminated all other options from your decision, and now you have only one. Being definite, means that you have made a clear-cut decision; you’re being explicit and decisive. By making a clear-cut decision you eliminate all other options from your decision, leaving you with only one option. In this way your focus is clear, crystal-clear like a laser beam. When you are indecisive, your mind is all over the place and you cannot focus on one outcome. You have too many options. While it is good to realise the world offers you unlimited opportunities, until you focus on one decision, one desire, nothing will happen.

In this book, Desire I show you how to change your mindset from being interested, which is a state where you are paying some attention to the possibility of something becoming reality for you, to being committed to situations and events occur that demonstrate your commitment. If you are merely interested, you will not do what is necessary to achieve your desired outcome/goal and the first challenge or obstacle you face will usually be enough for you to give up on your desire.

I have often heard young people say they would love a job in a specific area, but if it involves leaving their country town to go to the city, they baulk. I know there are issues involved in the decision, including the fear of going to the city and leaving the comfort of their family, friends and surroundings, but if they wanted it badly enough, they would commit 100% to the desire. That is the difference between interested and committed; between achieving something and not achieving something. If you are merely interested you will not be-come the person you need to be to achieve your desired outcome.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I was born on a sheep farm where I learnt about hard work and the cycles of life. My family were not poor, however, I certainly didn’t see myself as rich either. At 14, I went to boarding school which I found both challenging and rewarding. In year 12, I failed to pass my English exam by one mark, and in the following year I went back to college to repeat the year and pass the exam. Looking back, I see how the initial failure helped me to evolve. It gave me the opportunity to acquire new experiences at college, and led to me becoming a teacher.

In the three years that followed, I worked in Melbourne, trying to figure out what I was going to do with my life. Working in an office didn’t suit me, and while I enjoyed my time playing VFL football in the reserves for Collingwood my body was telling me that sport wasn’t my true path either.

After much soul-searching and discussion with a trusted wise lady, I decided to become a teacher and for 32 years this is what I have been doing and loving. In this time, I have taught many different subjects, including English, Mathematics, Physical Education, Science, Religious Education, Commerce, Food Technology, Outdoor Education, Health and Personal Development in VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning). My personal preference is Personal Development because what I shared with my students enabled me to see the positive change in them as they incorporated the teaching into their lives.

It is amazing when I reflect back on life, how taking what opportunities came my way, how each experience has been a benefit to me, and allowed me to become the person the person I am today.

For 16 years I also ran a restaurant with my then-wife. Teaching and being part of the restaurant was challenging, particularly while raising two young children. After a divorce and the sale of the restaurant, life took another turn, a turn to the path I now know was destined for me. Over a five year period I completed many courses that enabled me to look and reflect on my life. Each course came at the right time, one after another.

Previously, I had rarely read because I never seemed to have enough time. Now, suddenly, I couldn’t stop reading. I became a sponge for information which I was able to share with my school students and adult learners. The way I taught and the way I viewed my students changed, and as a consequence the results that my students were producing also changed.

Why was I having all these experiences and what was I to do them? The idea of writing a book had been planted in my mind many years ago, but I dismissed the idea with the excuse that I couldn’t write well enough to write a book. After all, I did fail English, even if it was by one mark! But the idea wouldn’t go away.

And now here I am with my first book written called Desire.

    CHAPTER ONE

    Desire

To change your life, you must change the concept of who you are.

For any change to take place in your life, first you must change the concept of who you are. Until you can imagine and create an image in your mind, of what you desire, change will not take place in your life. All changes take place first in your subconscious mind. Your concept of yourself, your assumptions about who you are, whether true or false, determines what manifests in your life. What you believe to be true is true for you. It is your reality until you change your concept of who you are.

What is your attitude towards yourself? What you affirm to be true for you is what your life will be.

I have witnessed many young people who don’t believe they are capable of achieving something in their life, and they live out the belief. On the other hand, I have witnessed many young people who have changed their belief about themselves and achieved amazing results. Until you can image yourself experiencing what it is that you aspire to, you will not achieve your desire.

Once you accept the assumption that you are who you wish to be or achieve, your life starts to change. You start your climb up the mountain, your mountain, your adventure, as opposed to someone else’s mountain or adventure. Every person’s mountain or adventure is unique to them. You may choose the same mountain, but your path will be different. Until you accept the image of yourself as being something other than who you are at this present moment, you will always remain as you are. The false image of yourself, as someone unable to achieve or be what you truly desire, will persist.

Change your concept of who you are.

Once you have changed your concept of who you perceive yourself to be, changes start to take place in your life.

I have trained many young people to run the 400 metres in athletic competition. Over and over again, I am fascinated by those who start out being reluctant to compete because they do not believe in their ability. Their concept of themselves is not that of a successful 400 metre runner. In their first year they compete because I ask them to. As they witness their own results, their confidence grows. Their concept of themselves changes from one of I am not a good 400 metre runner, to one of I can do this. In their second year, they run with a different concept of themselves, and by the third year these young people see themselves as athletes who can compete successfully at the highest level.

To begin with, the only person who believes in them as runners is me. By the third year, they believe in
