About this ebook
The human heart, mind, and soul long for the answer of an essential question central to our very being: who am I? This question is rooted in our separation from God when we entered the state of the fall noted in Genesis. This devotional will facilitate you on the journey of deeper intimacy with God and growth in the restoration in your true original identity in Christ.

Epigraph
Romans 8:18-21
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
First Love
My soul does magnify you Lord.
Let my soul magnify you with all that I am.
Great I am, you are with in me and I in you.
My soul has found the one it longs for
You are my heart’s desire
Ravish my heart
Ravish my heart Lord
Take me back, take me back
Take me back to the apricot tree
Take me back, take me back
Take me back to the apricot tree
Take me there to the apricot tree
Where you first, where you first
Where you first awakened me
Take me back
Lay me there and awaken me
Lay me there, lay me there
Beneath the apricot tree
Lay with me there; lay with me there my love…
Preface
Developmental psychologist Erik Erikson defined from his studies that (internal) identity achievement is fundamental for adolescents to move into their adult roles and life healthily. On the other end of the spectrum adolescents who were not able to achieve this Erikson described as lacking the preparedness to move into their life roles. Identity influences our values, decisions, decision making ability, level of ability to commit, relationships, crisis management, emotional stability, work ethics etc…
Jesus, though he was fully God when in his human body, was also fully man and experienced everything we experience—including trials and temptations—just as we do. What kept Jesus from sinning and entering the curse of sin and death, other than being God’s son incarnate? Jesus did not just resist temptation or stay away from sin and have all authority and power for healing and restoring because he is God’s son; he was empowered because he understood who he is by revelation through God’s holy spirit. While he was as a human man, he also remained obedient to God the Father. He was firmly rooted in his identity and his Father God. Jesus had to go through process just as we do thus showing us the order of the process and the proper way to go through.
One of the greatest life-changing events I have experienced happened when I accepted Jesus Christ into my life. My life changed dramatically, in many ways for the better, but I continued to struggle with What now?
I went through years of difficulties, taking three steps forward and two steps back. I could not figure out why. I knew there was more to it than just believing and continuing to go through life the same way as I did before I became a believer of Christ. Early on, I went to Bible College because God was leading me to learn about who he is, what exactly I believed and teaching me obedience by faith.
Another significant life event and spiritual process came when I was diagnosed with a rare cancer and was later healed by the Lord. My faith developed greatly at that time. My oncologist confessed at my one-year checkup that she and my other attending medical providers were shocked that I had recovered—the progression of the cancer by the time they had started chemotherapy had not made survival likely. Even after that, however, I continued to struggle spiritually and in life, always searching to find who I was and my purpose. I always felt rejected and like I was treading water just to get a breath now and then. Nothing I did seemed to help or bring change.
I went to church, Bible studies, and revivals. I read and studied for years, trying to figure out what my problem was. I prayed and talked with other Christians. I believed in Jesus, and I believed that I had a healthy understanding of who God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are. However, my understanding of God was vague and I did not understand who I was. I knew I was a sinner in need of a savior. That is pretty much where it stopped. I have learned since that many who struggle believe about and/or have an understanding of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit—even Satan believes and knows. As I began to examine who I was in relation to Christ Jesus, I realized that my level of maturity and identity is completely dependent on him. Everything seemed to come together for me as I awakened to who I am. I could see differently many of the issues I had struggled with for years.
When a trial or temptation comes up now, I can see it and handle it from a different perspective and stance. Through the loving grace of God, my heart, eyes, and understanding are open to God and to my identity in Christ. Our relationship grows more intimate as I am increasingly open to him. As a result, my relationships with others have changed as well. Some relationships have ended, while others have become more meaningful, and new relationships have blossomed—all for good and God’s glory. When I was
