Aortoarteritis (AA)
Definition
AA is a chronic inflammatory disease of unknown etiology that involves aorta and its major branches.
American College of Rheumatology (1990)

AA is an idiopathic inflammatory disease of large elastic arteries occurring in the young and resulting in occlusive or ectatic changes mainly in aorta and its immediate branches as well as the pulmonary artery and its branches.

Histopathology:
Hallmark of the disease is a granulomatous lesion with giant cells.
Hence classified as ‘giant cell arteritis’
