Benefits of the Secret Place of God

    Introduction

People often think they know God but the question is, do they really know Him? Do you know God? Do I know God? These questions may appear personal and, to some, intrusive, but I believe that no Christian has come to maturity until such a person is able to ask himself, Do I know God, at least the way I should? and then sincerely come up with an accurate but honest assessment of self as it relates to the knowledge of God.

If Moses could still ask to experience God in another dimension then he already had, even after those wonderful encounters and his fellowship with God (Exodus, 33:13-23), then you and I can do no less. God, Himself, bore witness to Moses’ knowledge of the Godhead when He aided Aaron and Miriam. "With him [Moses] will I speak mouth to mouth . . ." (Numbers 12:8), and yet Moses considered himself not to have comprehended God. What a lesson!

In the New Testament, we see something similar to that of Moses in Paul, the Apostle. Paul once said, "Brethren, I count not myself to have posessed it: but this one thing I do . . . I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians, 3:13-14). And what is the aim? . . . that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death . . ." (Philippians 3:10). And that was the Paul who had abundance of revelations of God and from God!

Oh! How we need such people and mentality today. Let us therefore, as many as would be perfect, be thus minded, Paul concluded (Philippians, 3:15). I believe that Christians of today have lots to learn from this great Apostle of God in regard to knowing God.

Paul, in writing to the church in Corinth, said, ‘Examine yourselves whether ye be in the faith. Prove you own selves.’ (2 Corinthians, 13:5a).

Self-assessment and examination is something very important in one’s walk as a Christian. It is a vital part of human progress and development, but the thing is that it is largely neglected by so many. It is a great virtue in the Christian faith and God esteems it highly in His dealings with us. In fact, look through the pages of the scriptures: it looks as if whenever any man judges or examines or assesses himself, mercy always triumphs over divine judgement (James, 2:13). As a matter of fact, in Psalms 51, that was what God saw and was endeared to David.

Now, why all the above statements and illustrations on the subject of self-examination and the knowledge of God? One of the areas where Christians must thoroughly and sincerely examine themselves is in the area of their knowledge and acquaintance with God.

How truly do you know God? Yes, you have you heard of God, you might even believe
