That The Sovereign, The Holy God of Heaven, will grant to all who read, study, and teach the information in this book, the ability to retain its principals in their mind, its words on their tongue, its practice in their service, and its effect for God’s honor in their hearts; for the building up of the Body of Christ, for the work of service.

    Dedication

It is my honor to dedicate this book to my now deceased father and mother, the Reverend and Mrs. Fred Thompson, of Paducah, Kentucky, and all those whom God has placed in my life to guide and instruct me. They were assigned a difficult task.

I also, had the honor of being blessed by studying New Testament Greek, under the tutelage of Dr. C. Howard Matheny, D.D., my Pastor, friend, and instructor in Koine Greek, for four years. He not only taught me Koine Greek, but he also, taught me much Theology as well.

Thirdly, I want to dedicate this book to all those thousands who sat and listened to my feeble attempts at either preaching or teaching the Scriptures. I have very nearly made every mistake a young teacher or preacher could make over the last fifty-three years. For that reason I have written this book

    Foreword

The intended purpose of this book is to assemble into a single source, basic information that can, after studied and learned, have a dramatic affect on one’s teaching of Holy Scripture. It is by no means intended to be a thorough study of the art of teaching; however, it is intended to be a basic manual for the instruction of the inexperienced teacher. When the principals sited in this book are learned and adhered to, the teacher’s effectiveness can be greatly enhanced.

I have endeavored to place each chapter in proper order to give a simple step, by step order to the process of learning this information.

Before anyone becomes an affective teacher of Scripture, that person needs to have a basic knowledge of the principles and practices of communicating, teaching, and interpreting of the Scriptures. It is these three skills that are employed most in teaching the Truth of the Bible. The teaching of Scripture is an awesome responsibility, for indeed, the Scripture says. "Let not many {of you} become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such, we shall incur a stricter judgment (James 3:1, NAS). God, places a high degree of responsibility on those who engage in this high calling. It is through the teaching of Scripture, that men, women, and children are instructed in God’s Truth for His glory, and their benefit. The Bible tells us through the Apostle Paul, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine (lit. teaching) for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (II Tim 3:16-17 NKJ). It is on the basis of thoroughly understanding all aspects of this verse that anyone should consider becoming a Bible Teacher.

It is for this reason that the above quoted verse should not be over looked. Everyone will give an account in the judgment for their deeds done in the flesh, especially teachers of the Word of God. Ministry to God’s people requires a commitment of time, study, and effort on the part of those attempting to teach God’s Word. Being called and gifted to teach is a great blessing for anyone desiring to be a Bible Teacher, but gifting alone does not qualify anyone to teach. A teacher needs to be trained in the principles and practices of various areas of teaching so that the teaching gift may be developed to its fullest potential.

In order to teach affectively, the teacher needs to have a working understanding of the cognitive function of the human brain when engaged in the learning process. However, no one will have real success teaching the Truths
